Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

GameHouse has a sitewide 40% discount sale from today until the end of the weekend.  40% off either the member price or the non-member price, whichever you are, and both full-priced and already-discounted games.

Code:  TASTY

For example, for members, Shadow Shelter would be $3.59, and $5.99 for non-members.

Stuesue, it were Deadly Puzzles: Toymaker and The Others.

I love Shadow Shelter too. I bought it during the Legacy sale and have already replayed it!

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Stusue, it must really suck to be so far away from everyone when they're going through such tough times.  Because of working in the carnival I got to spend the last several winters with my mother before she passed, I'm grateful for that.
With the GameHouse sale I will probably use the code to get either Diamon Jones Devil's Contract or else Princess Isabella, both are $1.99.  That will give me a 75% off that I can use for some other game at 40% off.
A nice lady just sent me 2 PCCs so I have to decide what to use them on.  I'm pretty sure I wil get the SE of True Fear, the other might be the Alice game or Raincliff Phantoms.  She knew I could use some cheering up.

I got the Diamon Jones game from GH.  I looked in my purchase history and I had a different Princess Isabella and I didn't have any of the Diamon games so I thought I would give that series a try.  Now I've got a 75% off coupon I can use this weekend with the sales code.

Thanks, stusue and lilyr, thanks for your kind words, means a lot.

Well, stusue, Dream Hills, Captured Magic sounds good too.  I think I'm going to go back thru this thread and find the games everyone enjoyed/hated and make a note on my schedule (recommended by , thumbs down) so I can check them out and decide for myself.  Hard to remember all the games you all finish, so this will help me when I get more time.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

So sorry about your mom stusue (wish I could put the flower like on the bfg site) My grandma was fiercely independent as well and even near the end she still called all the shots from her bed. I really really miss her. I've been kind of sad recently that she will never meet my to be husband or attend my wedding. I was sooo close to her and I miss her so much. I do feel like she watches over me though.

I see this $7.99CE/$3.99SE sale is for EVERYONE. That to me is like unacceptable because what is the point of being a member then except for the DD/COW & the majority of which I have or don't want. Punch coupons don't count anymore and this sale is better than the ones they usually give members like last weekend for instance. I saw DragonLady from oz posted on this weeks new CE the phantom tide one which I need to demo and she is waiting for her 2 fav developers to sell stuff on their own sites and then she will leave BFG. I didn't realize that anyone really sold on their own sites besides playrix, alawar, legacy, avem. I thought she was a big fan of ERS, Elephant, Boomzap, Artifex Mundi etc. sooo do they have sales on their own sites I am not aware of?

Since I finished Joan of Arc, I am now playing Heroes of Hellas 3-Athens. This is the only one mac players have got so I have no idea what the first 2 were about or anything but I am enjoying this one.

We finally got Eternal Journey-New Atlantis CE which I think is by alawar and its been out for ages from what I remember. I think I demoed this LAST february when I was dogsitting since I had access to a pc.. so early 2013...I think I wanted it but can't remember if I wanted the CE...guess we will see.

Now back to Grim tales-Bloody Mary CE....I am just LOVING this one  Hope everyone has a nice weekend

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I tried 20 minutes of Shadow Shelter and I like it so far but it seems very slow and a bit laggy, and that's on my desktop, I think it would be unplayable on the laptop.  I like the quiet creepy atmosphere of it so far and I even like the HOs, I don't know why.  Maybe I will have to mark it down for a Halloween purchase.  I wonder if the GH version would run any faster?  There's a lot of games that are too laggy to play on my laptop and all the ones I bought over the winter I never tried on it.

Edit:  I tried it on the laptop and it plays the same, so it's a definite maybe

I have  also finished  The Others. Not so fun, barely OK. The female VO was annoying!

Wow, Anki, talk about having different tastes!    I've never thought about my favourite SEs, unlike my favourite CEs, but The Others and Shadow Shelter are now my 2 fav SEs ever!!!!

I've just finished playing The Others and LOVED it!  It's really quirky and different (and takes an about turn halfway through and turns into a totally new genre!) and the quirky music makes the game.  I do agree, however, Anki, that the female voice was a bit annoying but it was fine after I'd turned the music and ambient sound right up and turned the SFX right down.  Then I could hardly hear the voice over the music so it was fine.

What I loved about the game:

  -  there's a labyrinth where you find different puzzles/minigames at each end you come across
  -  the very original minigames/puzzles - some of them were great and really interesting
  -  the way you take note of the clues you find on your clueboard (I don't want to spoil it)
  -  the original idea of the blue objects in the HOSs - you have to work out which is correct
  -  some great inventory puzzles - one took about 10 steps and you had to experiment
  -  they even have some IQ-like puzzles - the next number in sequence was really inventive
  -  I LOVED the music, even the discordant bits - it's all variations on a theme

And to think I almost didn't get this game!    I spent all day last Monday trying to decide which would be my last SE and I almost didn't get The Others but, right at the end, I thought, stuff it, why not, and got it.  Phew!  Otherwise I would have missed out on a fantastic, very original and interesting game.    It starts out like every other HOPA but then it just gets better and better and slowly changes into a really unique, interesing and fun game.  I just wish it had been longer as it didn't seem to be nearly as long as Shadow Shelter and I wanted more!

Oh, and Sunshine, I thought of your husband when I played one of the HOSs as I had to find a viking!

For anyone who'd like to see the next-number-in-the-sequence puzzle, here it is if you'd like to think about it.  I loved this one.  Just highlight it to see it.

Thanks, Meg

I'm sure your grandma will be with you when you get married.  I can understand the pain and loss when you lose someone you love.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Wendy, I almost forgot!

Working in a carnival I don't know if you'd like a game with carnival games in it, but in The Others you have to play some side-alley games in a carnival and I thought of you the whole time I was playing them.  You even have to go on a boat through a haunted tunnel several times!  I loved it.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I love carnival games and games set in carnivals.  I love logic type puzzles, too.  My guess for the number sequence is * 60 *
