Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Day 4 of the 5 and 10 coins sale.  I sold 120 items in that price range within 20 minutes.  I felt like a sale clerk at Walmart's on Black Friday.  It's the same people every day buying this stuff.  They can't be going for their auction achievements, they've been playing the game much longer than me, buying and selling every day.

I'll do another bargain basement sale tonight.  I can't believe how much stuff I've got.  Some items are still in triple digits.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I've been buying cheap stuff for my Buyout Achievement and in the hopes of getting the bought at auction Acievement.  Yesterday I checked prices and sold some stuff that I thiught would be fairly priced and would sell.  It was all snapped up within minutes so I guess I sold the stuff too cheaply.  At least I sold it!

Suddenly there are a bunch of Mythical Cameos for sale.  One for 125,000!

Not necessarily.  It may mean that you've priced your item fairly.  If you keep a record of what you charge for the things you usually sell, you can slowly up your price and see if people still grab it right away.  Unless somebody is looking for a particular item, you only get 2 chances for people to see it:  when it's first listed, and when it makes it on to the ending soon list.

That's why I prefer to have people buy it immediately.  If they turn around and sell it for more, good for them.  I've already priced it so that I made a decent profit and have used my profit to go buy something else that I need or think that I can resell.

Relieved to see that my mispriced Cameo has made it into the 5 figures range and I won't take as much of a bath on the item as I first thought.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Thanks for the Auction tips Tirama.  Yes.  Your cameo seems as though it will fetch a decent price.  I'm rather puzzled though.  I think the cameos give thread.  Seems like one could buy thread a lot more cheaply.  Unless people want it to count for the completed sets Achievement.

I wish there was a way to find stuff that still had buyout prices.  The only way I know is by seller.  Do the arrows on the bottom sides of the Auction list do anything?  I've never gotten them to work.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

My Cameo went for 26,000 and the buyer imediately listed it for a buyout of 50,000.  Can't complain, I'd do the same if the roles were reversed.

Some of the people who have been playing this game from when it was first released challenge themselves to collect x  pounle paying item, which is probably why you see people paying so much for  some rare items.  I personally don't care if I have the same amout of completed sets or stuff.

The bottom arows appear to do nothing.  When I was going for my buyout achievement, I just checked the new listed page and the ending soon page.  There's still a lot of cheap stuff out there.  Or you could try searching for a particular item and in the second search box, select lowest price first.  There's still a lot of blue & yellow plates, etc looking for a buyer.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I know there's still a lot of cheap stuff out there but, even to get the achievement, I don't want to have a gazillion of some of the items.

That was a pretty decent price for your cameo.  There's at least one thread on BFG about people who are angry about people who buy stuff and flip it for a much higher price. "It's not fair!"  Neither is life.

I've checked my sales by typing in my own name in the "check by seller" box.

I know the people on the AK forum whinge about the auctions.  They think that items should be put up for auction for 10 days and that nobody should bid on anything in the last minutes (hours?) because they bid days ago and it's "their" item.  Sorry, but that's not how it works.  And in ART, where you're supposed to be an antiques dealer, it's all about buying and selling.  If they don't want somebody to buy something of theirs and sell it for a higher price, then either ask more for it in the first place or don't sell it.

For all I know, I may still have some of the junk I bought to earn the achievement.  You can always put the stuff you buy up for auction immediately after you buy it.  I was content to just get back what I paid.  I didn't care about the junk, I cared about the gold bars I got for buying the junk.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Barre sent me a message in-game saying people are buying all kinds of stuff.  Not from me.   I bid on stuff to try to get the "win from bidding" Achievement.  I bid 2 coins for a Columbia (Columbus?) stamp.  There was a counter bid of 175!  So I listed a few of mine for 3-5.  Some of the asking prices are just insane!  I was thinking of putting my Brave's Companion up (I have 2) but decided against it.  I'll see what happens.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

The junk buyers aren't buying from me right now either.  Wait and try at a different time.  Are you bidding on stuff on the ending soon page?  You can usually "win" the auctions for the junk that got ignored when people were buying junk on buyout.  I find it's usually pointless bidding on something 23 hours before the auction closes.  It just ties up your money and the odds of winning anything good that way is slim.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I love the auctions.  I play an HO or two, then check the auction, play a mini or two, check the auction, sell some stuff, play a mini, check the auction, turn in some collections, it lets you play the game for hours if you want.  Sometimes the expensive stuff goes and I ask higher and higher, if it doesn't go then I put my cheap junk out there and dump that.  The auctions in ART and the ones in AK seem different to me.  Of course it's a lot easier to make money in ART.  In ART you get to play the minis, in AK I'm always scared to death about playing a mini and wasting my resources.  In ART it's so much easier to get them.  I did like AK better, but with the new upgrades I like ART better now.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.
