Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

QUESTION:

I want to delete today's free game - Natalie Brooks: The Treasures of Lost Kingdom - now that I've played it, as I can't see myself wanting to play it again, but I can't find it listed under "Uninstall/Change" on Windows 7.  I uninstalled the BFG version but can't find the free version anywhere.  I searched for it but to no avail.

I know where it's located on my C drive but can only delete it, not uninstall it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

That is very strange that it isn't in you programs.  You said you know where it is on c, is one of the extensions programs? Maybe it went somewhere else.  Or maybe because the bfg version was there when you uninstalled it cleared both.

I was reading reviews on a game to,see what the CE SE differences were. Some people are so condescending.  One reviewer wrote (as did most) that it didn't qualify as a CE.  Yes it did have a SG if you were new to this type of game, but she hadn't had to open one of these in years!  To me the reviewer basically says you're an idiot if you need it. I could almost see the disdain as she typed.  Lol

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Oscar, it's in the Game Giveaway of the Day folder, in C.  It wasn't uninstalled when I uninstalled the BFG version as it's still there and I can still start the game.    It's not listed in the Uninstall games list and I couldn't find it when I did a search.    I can delete the folder but that wouldn't totally clear it, as far as I know.

And yes, I agree with what you said.  I also really wish people wouldn't make judgemental comments about what "we" all like or dislike in games, like the "useless" CE extras like wallpapers, art, music, etc, which I happen to like, especially when some thought is put into them.  I have no problem with them saying what they like or dislike or don't think is important, but I don't like it when they assume that we all feel the same.

Just a few days ago I read a thread on another CCC-refugee site (which shall remain nameless) about how several people have highjacked the reviews on BFG and rave about every game - and their comments were very scathing and derogatory.  But, if you look at what they all say in the developers' threads on that site, there's hardly any negative things said, let alone a negative comment.  It's a developer love fest over there.  I thought that was so hypocritical.  But it did give me a good LOL moment.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Speaking of wallpapers etc, I thought since I tend to get the CE I would start utilizing that when playing the game.  On Web of Deciet I went to the wallpapers and found no way to save or set it.  It was very strange.  Perhaps you can't until you complete the game, I'll have to check.  But that kinda defeats the purpose.

And yup I totally agree, it is a developer love feast, I know of where you speak.  I find on BFG it is a mixed bag, but some reviewers are consistently positive but they do state negative aspects as well, and there is nothing wrong with that.  They obviously like the games and that is their perogative.  I appreciate that they take the time to do it and I find the reviews pretty helpful when Ive gone looking for some info.  I never base a buy or even demo based solely on what others say. Some people just like to bitch and tear others up thru the nice anonymity of the net. Probably just another way to indirectly slag BFG off!

That is so weird about the giveaway (which I am going to get)

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I also appreciate all those who review games, especially those who give really useful information re CE versus SE.  I know of one reviewer who constantly reviews and gives a breakdown of all aspects of each game ... and has been lambasted for her constant reviews!  I don't understand that, apart from maybe jealousy.    She almost stopped posting when things got really bad but, fortunately, she got enough support that she's continued.  She especially got really hateful, belittling comments when she posted her comments about the CE in the SE forum, letting us know what the difference was and which she recommended, which is the most important info for me.  I know myself from the demo whether I like a game or not, and so look to reviews for info re the CE, especially the length and quality of the bonus chapter, or if the same quality continues in both the CE and SE after the demo, for example.

But what I really hate is when reviewers don't think of all the time and sweat that goes into these games and say things like that a game is garbage, etc, without thinking how hurtful that must be for the developers who've poured their hearts into their games.  I feel so sad for those who've made these games and feel angry on their behalf for all these unnecessarily hurtful comments.  Why can't the reviewers be polite and just say what they like or don't like about a game without being scathing, and only say things that they would say to the developers' faces, rather than, as Oscar said, using the "nice anonymity of the net" to say such nasty things.  But as for that other site, Oscar, I totally agree with you that it's just another way to belittle BFG.

But I find useful negative reviews - negative in that the reviewer didn't like the demo and explains why, not that what they said was negative in a nasty way - extremely helpful as I see if what they didn't like about the game is something I don't like as well, or whether it's not something that concerns me.  Eg, some people give a 1-star review, saying 'no walkthrough = no buy', which means that I can discount that 1-star review as no walkthrough is no deterrent for me.

Oscar, if you do get the Natalie Brooks game and then you want to delete it after playing, I'd be really interested to know if you have any problems doing it.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Stusue - I will definitely make note of how the delete goes.  I think I'm going to scrap the balance of the bonus section on Web of Deceit.  I'm really not enjoying it and I'm certainly spoilt for choice! I think I may go for Enigmatis Mists of Ravenwood

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Stuesue, it´s always like that with Gamegiweaway, they are never listed in Uninstall.
I also got the glitch with the telephone and wasn´t as smart as you, so I just deleted it.
Good information for the future
I have problems with my new computer,It don´t let me install the Giweaways (maybe it´s Norton ),
so I download and install it on my old one and then transfer it to the new .

sunshinej, I was playing a fun little game this morning on GH (although the theme is dark) called The Curse of Silent Marshes, until I hit a violation error when I couldn't pick up something that I needed.  It looks like a lot of people had the same problem.  I really like the game (even though it's no big production) so I'm hoping they fix the glitch soon (it's been sent to the developers to correct).  So, I recommend playing the game - not buying - but waiting until the glitch has been fixed.

stusue...Thanks, I was looking at that game.  Now I will wait to download it .

Anki...I use Norton and wasn't able to d/l the free gamegiveaway also.  So maybe it is Norton.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I too have norton but I can dl, so it may be some setting in it.  I had the telephone issue as well so so I have dl the BFG one to have concurrent if I need it. Although I find that very odd, the glitch is in one but not the other.

And so far I love everything about the Mists of Ravenwood.
