Group Play for City Of Fools

Hi everyone, I thought I would set up this new topic so that anyone who is still playing the game can come in here to ask for clues or discuss anything.  I also copied the list of players and have posted it here so that I can update it easily.  It is still open to anyone who wants to join in.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

Thanks barre. I'm still plugging away at it, but may be stumped soon. I want to figure out what I can by myself first, but I'm beginning to run out of obvious things to do.

At this point I'm at 105 tasks assigned and 80 completed.

Curious to know how it's going for the rest of you who haven't finished yet?

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

Hi Jen, I'm plodding along but haven't played it for the last two days, and I'll be out all day today, lots do driving so I'm not sure ill be mentally competent to play tonight lol.  You definitely have more task than I do at this point.  I seem to be meandering around a lot and retrace old ground although I have found a couple of new places.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

jen & oscar - I finished the game but there is something still puzzling me.  I was left with a piece of paper that had some numbers on it but I couldn't figure out what to do with it.  If you come across that piece of paper in your inventory, can you let me know where you found it?  and what you managed to do with it?  I flew off to the island with that paper in my inventory because I didn't have a clue what it was.  Thanks.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

OK, finished this tonight. In the end I completed 116 tasks, and I ended up with the following in my inventory:

runny nose meds
screwdriver
jaws
key
nail clipper
dictaphone
microphone

I had to use the Hint button twice. Once when I couldn't find the receipt for the locker room, even though I knew I found it early on the first time I played. The other time wasn't 100% required because I already had my plane ticket, but I wanted to know how to find the maniac.

I think I remember people mentioning that there were a maximum of 122 tasks total, though some are optional. The one thing that I know I wasn't able to figure out was at the Theater. I thought that I should (spoilers hidden) match the type of note with the the height of the player, i.e. the heighest note given to the tallest musician. I tried several times and then gave up. If someone could tell me if I was on the right track, I'd be grateful. If anyone remembers I'd also like to know how my leftover items were used by other people. I remember seeing one of the musicians in the poster wiping his nose, so I'm assuming that's what the runny nose medicine would be used for if I'd gotten past the Theater puzzle. Just curious.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

barre - I do remember a piece of paper with 5 digits on it. I don't think it ended up doing anything, but I used the numbers to dial the Mayor from the motel room near the beach. He just picked up the phone and said something like "This is the Mayor. I'm on an island". The numbers were 7-18-92.

Could that mean what you meant? I don't remember where I found it though.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

Jen, the runny nose medicine, screwdriver, nail clippers and jaw went to the hospital. I guess you missed that place altogether. It was really weird to get to. The key could be used there as well.

For the musicians, I had to go to the forum and get the exact placement.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

My mini review:
In many ways this is my favorite type of game, although I did have some problems with it.

I loved the gameplay so much -- picking up multiple tasks (some easy, some a little more challenging) and collecting lots of items in different ways as you go along. I most loved there being an open-ended world to explore in whatever order you want, as well as having multiple routes to progress instead of one linear path you have to follow.

But the tone of the game and the attempts at humor rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't find a lot of it funny. Way too much toilet humor. And some of the humor just didn't make sense to me -- maybe lost in translation? However, the gameplay was so unique, and there was so much that I loved that I had no problem overlooking the stuff I didn't like. I really enjoyed playing this.

Re: Group Play for City Of Fools

Thanks Gov, I noticed a hospital mentioned on the map but you're right, I couldn't figure out how to get there. Good to know all my unused items would have been used there.

oscar - I definitely reached a point toward the end where I was wandering around a lot, but not making much progress. That's when I decided to break down and use the Hint button for one of the tasks. After that I was able to pretty easily progress all the way to the end. FYI, it's not much of a 'hint' button, they pretty much just say 'this is exactly where you can find that item'. Not subtle is what I mean.

PS - As far as I can tell, it seems the most "whited out" color for text is 'Light Grey' against this background.
