Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

tee - what I'm saying is that unless I pay to skip Captain Matthew's house, I can't play that HO scene any more so consequently, I can't get any collectibles that can only be gotten from that scene.  And it's going to cost me 84 units of energy to check to see if the next update fixes that problem.

At least, I'm assuming that paying to skip that quest will make Matthew and his blasted key go away.  I just don't see why I should have to use my gold to find out.

This update has caused another issue for me.  This update is a resource hog.

I used to be able to toggle between the game and the forum, or between the game and e-mails, or between the game and and my spreadsheet, but know when I do that, it's like the days of 300 baud.  I type way faster than the letters appear on the screen.

I know it's not my machine, this proble doesn't happen if I'm playing AW.  My computer has an Intel i7 processor, oodles of memory and a dedicated graphics cards.  It's not me or my equipment, it's BoomZap's crappy programming.

I'm so sorry Tirama.  I have a couple of minor glitches since the update too.  Do you belong to PondFriends?  There is a thread there for both of the F2Ps and a person from Boomzap (monika) who reads what we write and passes it along to the DEVs.

Regarding your problem with the scroll bar to see the cities.  I have the same issue.  The right hand arow scrolls just fine, but the left hand arrow appears to be stuck.  What's happened is that the "sweet spot" has become much smaller.  You have to click on the very edge of the right side of that arrow to get it to scroll.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

This game is seriously starting to piss me off!!!!!  You are right, Tirama, there is something wrong with Boomzap programming...it sucks!!  The other day when it was raining resources, I had nothing to complain about, it made me happy so what's wrong with that?  Now it's the exact reverse and I don't know what  has happened.  Maybe they got a lot of complaints but when I go into a HOS and click the first item, you get 1 or 2 collectibles....big deal...and I'm very fast in finding objects but for being fast I get 1 collectible, next...none....next 1...next none....on and on.

Seriously??  they did a 180 degree turnaround and are giving us pittance for finding items?  I don't see why the sudden change.  It has certaiinly cured my addiction to this game because I'm not going to play it as often as before, and certainly will not pay any money to buy their precious coins during the sale.

I hope they don't make any drastic changes to Awakening Kingdoms....at least I'm still happy playing that one.  I like it more than ART.   Well, I have never liked Boomzap in the first place and don't really buy much of their games anymore.

I'm still playing Midnight Castle and it has done 2 updates recently.  More HOS open up as I level up.  It's an okay game and it refreshes itself faster so I go in once in a whiile and play a few HOS to find what I need, then I leave until the next time.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

There's speculation on the BF forums that the coin sale banner triggered the change in the amount of resources and collectibles being awarded.  If that is true, it would mean that BoomZap deliberately showered us with extra resources and collectibles for a short period of time.  Why?  In the hopes that we would not notice that they didn't fix all the problems?

What's wrong with handing out the excess resources is that it makes the assembling of collections pointless.  The game was originally designed so that you had to trade in collectibles to get the majority of your resouces.  If you receive 20 brick, 20 paints, 20 lumber AND 20 tweezers from playing 1 HO scene, why would you bother trying to assemble a collection of men's shoes and only get 10 bricks for your troubles?

Handing out excess collectibles has adversely affected the auction.  Who are you going to sell your excess cool cooton scarfs to if potential customers are assured of getting one (and every other collectible along with it) when they play the bar in Chicago?  And why should we even care if BoomZap activates the gifting part of the game?  Just play a HO and you get more stuff than if it were Christmas.

It will take at least a week for the auction to normalize.  By making collectibles and resources so plentiful, even for just a short time, BoomZap has devauled them.  As somebody said on the BF forums  "They are now effectively worthless, whereas before they were a main currency of the game. It's like if the government suddenly printed trillions of dollars of paper money and released it into the economy."

Who knows what the HO scenes will be handing out after the currency sale is over?

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Tirama, I do see your point and I was playing the game happily before the update messed it up.  Previously I got a reasonable amount of resources from every HOS and it was okay by me.  I did the auctions and tried for the achievements.

Now, after the update, it is worse.  I agree it should not be raining resources, but now it has switched to giving us way too little....I prefer it before the update when we received a reasonable amount.

The sale is only on currency and I'm not interested.  If the sale was on gold, perhaps I would have spent some money because most of the food and resources require gold to buy.

Suffice to say I will not be playing this game as often as before.  I will stick to AK and MC.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I was very happy before the update, too.  I didn't mind waiting for things to be fixed and bided my time buying and selling things and amassing resources.  I put in 4 hours at least each day, pobrably 8 on the weekends, only to have that effort made a mockery of because it only took 8-12 HO scenes for people to achieve the same thing while resources were being showered down.

The update wrecked the auction, so if I wanted to do anything with the game other than sit and wait for yet another update, I had no choice but to give in and pay the 5 gold bars NOT to play, only to have it lead to yet another quest that is broken worse than the Red Mines, where at least I can play it in fast shopper mode if I want.

And the vibe I get from the BF forums from some people is "Just pay the gold to skip the quest and shut up already."

I loved this game because it involved so much more strategy than AK.  Now it's a piece of garbage.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Thanks for the tip on scrolling left Tirama.  It works.  Yesterday and this morning I played a couple of HO scenes and got ungodly amounts of resources: 14 or more of each and multiples in each scene.  Just now I played a scene and got some collectibles but only one piece of 2 different resources.

I have most of my buildings maxed at 5.  I've also bought decorations.  I've only customized the Antique shop.

Can't DEVs tweak programs by changing a bit of code without doing an actual update?

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

lilyr, since you're on a higher level than I am, have you upgraded the wharf in Breezy Bay to level 3?
I don't see any wharf in Breezy Bay unless it's the one attached to the Snack Shop?  Will there be a quest to upgrade the wharf later? or do we upgrade the snack shop and it will eventually upgrade the wharf?

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I did upgrade the wharf and it is the one attached to the snack shop.  It was quite a while ago but I think I got separate quests to update the wharf.  I think I upgraded it twice but I can't remember.

The wharf is yet another bug that needs to be fixed.  I've upgraded it once as part of a quest but clicking on it now just gives that cha-ching sound instead of opening up the upgrade window.
I did some buying and selling oon the auction.  Some prices have stabilzaed but others are all over the place.

I've upgraded lots of buildings since it appears that we don't receive quests for this activity.

Art studio, photography studio, toy shop, porcelain store, park ranger are all level 3

Bird watching, botanical, animal shelter, Post office, diner, ice cream parlor and hardware are level 2

Construction is going on at the library, Phillip's house, Crawford's, the pizzaria and the butterfly sanctuary.

Only buildings still at level 1 are tailor's and auction house.

Number of coins holding steady at slightly less than 400,000.

Have achievement for 100 collection sets, 100 Bronze sets.  Have 28 silver sets, and 10 gold.
