Re: Finish your games challenge

Good morning everyone and Merry Christmas Eve Eve !!

Regarding the review by Gamezebo. That is only their opinion. It actually has nothing to do with Big Fish except that is just what they released. The devs at Boomzap said they made this game , not as a replacement for the series, but just as a diversion sort of until the next installment is released. Actually good marketing IMO as it keeps the Awakening game current.

I bought Adelantado and Farmington 2 today (well not bought but used pcc's) got my bonus punch for each but now I have two empty spaces and only about a week left. Hopefully something really good comes out by next Monday.

Re: Finish your games challenge

I'm hoping if we have a BOGO that it will be on the weekend so I can finally take advantage of BPM with it.
I don't know how much work it takes to port a game from one device to another, but it seems like once you pay for the original game to be developed that it wouldn't add an incredible amount of money to adapt it to other markets.  I've been playing Christmasville on my tablet and it's not as bad as I thought it would be to play on the smaller screen, thanks to the zoom feature, but my first choice is still a nice big PC monitor.  I hate my laptop screen, it's only 15 inches.
I've started Christmas Carol, I'm loving it  It's basically The Nutcracker, just a different story, and I'm liking this story better.  Oh, and I've played several of those diarama type puzzles, I really like them.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.

I've just come across this post from Artifex Mundi in August but it's very apropros for now.  I found their answer very interesting when they were asked if they were going to release a Christmas game ...

Thank you for this feedback. Christmas theme is a difficult one. And from the business side - there is only one time a year you have Christmas ;) And around that Elephant Games are releasing their Christmas game. So BFG "Christmas slot" is taken - and we are not strong enough to fight with Elephants for it So I am afraid we may not decide to go for it - at least for some time

ETA:  Oops, silly me.  I made a booboo.

I wonder if ERS abandoned their Christmas game?  It's not being released this week,  and I took a quick glance at their Facebook page and I can't see any mention of it.

Re: Finish your games challenge

I read somewhere that said that ERS decided they needed more time on the game and that it will be released next Christmas.

Re: Finish your games challenge

The past few months have been different for me in terms of game playing. I've had stretches of not playing any games at all. When I have been playing games, I've sometimes been playing stuff other than casual download games.

There was a stretch when I played some non-casual PC games, particularly Civilization V (which is a turn-based strategy game that I only play once in a while because it gets engrossing and I find it takes up all my free time) and Final Fantasy VII (RPG).

I've also been spending some time playing some browser-based online games. The two I played recently and liked most were:

-Civilization Wars, a real-time strategy game where you fight for control of buildings and resources. Some cute artwork and sound effects in this one.

-A Dark Room
I don't even know exactly how to describe this game. It's different from anything I've ever played. It's sort of mostly, but not entirely, text-based. What the game is about is a mystery to solve as you play. There are no instructions or directions, you just start in a dark room with a fire that's burned out. You relight the fire and then start exploring and seeing what you can do. It took me the better part of a day to play and it ended in a place I was completely not expecting when I started out. A totally fun and unusual experience.

But Felix already gave SE buyers a nice Christmas present.  He released the SE of MCF ony 24 days after the CE, and the SE of Christmas Carol was released a mere 17 days after the CE.

When we didn't get a CE BOGO in October, I was resigned to waiting until Christmas.  I'm going to be very sad if the November BOGO was in lieu of a Christmas BOGO.

Re: Finish your games challenge

Well, it's not my day today.  Got my first rejection of friendship on Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'.

It was from somebody who was all over the forum begging for friends to earn the 100 friends achievement and had been befriended by people who had way surpassed that mark.  Apparently this person doesn't believe in passing it on.  Now this person is looking for friends on Awakening, even though there's no achievement for it.  Maybe lining friends up for when the gifting option works?

I probably dodged a bullet with this one, all take and no give.

Re: Finish your games challenge

I found out about both of the last two games I posted about from jayisgames. I don't know if there's much interest here in browser-based online games, but (for anyone who isn't already familiar with them) jayisgames.com is a great site for these types of free games.

They do reviews of many types of casual games: free online games and download games (both from the types of developers who sell at BFG as well as from a lot of indie game designers) and increasingly mobile/ios games.

There are so many different types of games there, although a lot of them are less polished than the games you find at sites like BFG. But when I start to feel like I'm playing clones of the same few basic game types, I tend to head over there to find something a bit different. A lot of times I just pick one of their Top Rated games at random and have found some great games that way.

I haven't been going there as much in the past couple years, but some of my old favorites are:

-Hoshi Saga and it's sequels - gorgeous puzzle games where the goal is just to find a star in each puzzle - sometimes easy, sometimes very challenging

-Grow series - totally unique series where you have to make things happen in the correct order (hard to explain, but so so brilliantly fun). It's about determining the relationship between things that are not intuitive necessarily, but it does make it's own kind of sense. One of my all-time favorites!

-Rebuild and Rebuild 2 - zombie defense strategy games where you reclaim a zombie infested town

-Bloons series - tower defense games where you have to pop all the balloons (with your monkey defenders) before they get to your tower. And puzzle games where you have to figure out how to pop all the balloons w/your monkey's darts.

-Sushi Go Around - cute, simple little TM where you make various types of sushi for your customers. It was bought (at least I'm assuming it was bought because it's completely the same) by Youda Games and released as Youda Sushi Chef, but I still like the original

-Daymare Town series - super moody point-and-click adventure games

There's a whole huge genre of room escape games that I feel like fans of HOPAs and adventure games might like (though there are no HO scenes, you just have to solve puzzles to figure out how to get out of a room). Anyone ever played any of those?

Again, a lot of you probably already know about this site and these types of games. I've just been visiting the site again recently, and it's been making me want to share some of my favorites.

Re: Finish your games challenge

Jen, thanks for sharing all those games.  A few of them sound really interesting!    But I'm afraid I can hardly keep my eyes open and really must as it's already after midnight.  So I'll have another look at them tomorrow when I'm hopefully a bit more awake.

Tirama, sorry you got rejected.    But it does sound like you may have been lucky!
