stusue -- Do you know what the difference is between the regular 80 DAYS and the premium one?
I am heartsick about MagicIndie. But i guess we did it to ourselves. Demanding more and more (I keep reading so many reviews/comments saying no voiceovers= no buy) and constantly whining about the price.
I haven't played NUTCRACKER as yet. Still thinking that the SE of CHRISTMAS CAROL might be good enough. But if we get a true BOGOF...

Sorry, lilyr, but I don't know what the difference is in Around the World in 80 Days. I thought it might have been the animated screensaver but it appears that the SE has it as well. However, as it's free, does it really matter? Even if you already have the SE you could still download it - as it's free - and then just delete it if you find it's the same as the SE. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! It downloads really quickly and I haven't had any problems with this site at all. Just remember, if you do download it, you have to simply open the game today to initialise it. There's no key, no code, nothing required, just simply opening the game will initialise it and it must be done the day it's offered; it will be too late tomorrow.
Heartsick is a really good word when it comes to Magicindie. That's exactly how I feel. But imagine how they felt after Nearwood! They must have felt a lot worse than heartsick to abandon PC casual games and change to only iPad and iPhone games. However, if I remember correctly, at least 1, if not both, of their upcoming iPad and iPhone games are FTP which, as I posted earlier in this forum, aren't moneymakers, according to BoomZap, who are just hoping that their FTP games will increase sales for their PC casual games in the same series (eg. Awakenings). So I don't know that Magicindie's strategy will work if their new games are FTP. However, if you have an iPhone or an iPad you'll be able to play their 2 new upcoming games.
And yes, I think we ... well, them, really ... have shot ourselves in the foot by demanding more and more and bigger and better in all games, driving developers to change strategy as it's no longer profitable to make PC casual games. This is the 2nd company I know of directly who've taken this direction. At least I know that, even though I buy a lot more SEs than CEs, I also buy a lot of "little" low-budget SEs that are made by small, independent developers, as they may not have all the bells of whistles of the big names, but some of them sure are interesting and really fun to play, even without voiceovers!
I still haven't demoed Christmas Carol to decide on SE or CE. I want to play the 2 betas I have first but simply haven't had the time. But, as I've been saying every day ... there's always tomorrow...
I think we all have our fingers crossed for a BOGOF over the Christmas/New Year period like last year.

Thanks stusue for finding out about magicindie's plans. I was afraid it was going to be something like that when I saw their upcoming games. I feel pretty bad for them. They made such a great game with Nearwood and must of spent so much money making it and it must have lost money for them. Even though I am playing this game through GameHouse I am going to buy it from BF so I can own it. It really is a great game.

I finished Mosaics Galore and I loved it. However, I finished all the levels with 3 gold keys, got all the trophies, and yet the trophy for collecting all trophies did not register. That is a bummer and I don't know if it is a glitch in the game. Anyway, I am keeping this game in my GM to play again because it is a good game and I like it better than Patchworkz. They had one section with all winter scenes and it was fun playing it now....very appropriate.

I agree, sunshinej. I'm so glad I've got Nearwoood CE to play again. With most games, once I've finished I have no desire to play them again, even though I may have really enjoyed playing them. With Nearwood, however, I know I'll play it again, and probably more than once.
I read a comment today that said, "No voiceovers = no buy". All I could think was, the poor, poor developers. Now, after having read all the comments from BoomZap and the news from Magicindi, I'm much more aware of how difficult it is to make a profit on casual games, especially for the smaller developers, and really feel for them when I read comments like that. And another comment: "NO LOCKING Inventory bar on a CE???? whats up with that" No wonder the smaller developers are abandoning casual games, only leaving it up to the really big developers with lots of backing to make them. How can they compete? How much longer will we be lucky enough to get any, especially straight SEs? Will all the developers eventually turn to FTP to make a profit?
So, sunshinej, I don't know if you know about the forum topic on GameHouse where one of the GH guys tells us which games will be released in the following 3 weeks. If not, here are the games for the next 3 weeks...
Games Currently Expected to be Released in the Next Three Weeks:
Holiday Bonus Gold ... Match 3
Christmas Wonderland 4 ... Hidden Object Story (with puzzles)
New Yankee in Santa's Service ... Time Management
Jewel Legends – Magical Kingdom for Mac ... Match 3
Kingdom's Heyday ... Time Management
Christmas Puzzler ... Puzzle
You’re the Boss (PC and Mac) ... Sim Tycoon
Dracula 5 – The Blood Legacy ... Adventure
Dream Hills – Captured Magic ... Hidden Object
Mystery Riddles (PC and Mac) ... Picto-Puzzle
Christmas Griddlers
Gods vs Humans ... Strategy
Love Alchemy - A Heart In Winter ... Hidden Object
12 Labours of Hercules ... Time Management
Garfield Kart (PC and Mac) ... Driving/Flying
Mosaics Galore ... Board Games
Empire - Tales of Rome ... Match 3
Legends of Solitaire - Curse of the Dragons ... Card Games
I'm looking forward to New Yankee in Santa's Service as I love the first 2, but everywhere's getting it for Christmas - Legacy will have it on the 23rd at $2.95 and I imagine BFG will have it as well. But I can't believe that GameHouse has the Dracula series, an LFA series! I've got the first 3 and now I can play the last 2 on GameHouse without having to buy them (because I don't think 4 & 5 are nearly as good as the first 3). But Christmas Griddlers sounds interesting...

And don't foget all the people urging developers not to sell their games through Big Fish. BF is probably providing upfront money to some developers, especially those developers who have been given the honor of producing games in the MCF series, the HE series, etc.

I just started Antique FTP, it seems to play the same as Kingdoms? There seems to be food on sale so I think I will worry about making money and buying sale food if that's the case.
The Christmas Stories Scrooge game is the SE today so I will probably get it with a PCC tomorrow, then I will have 4 punches. You have to be a member when you fill your card to get a free game so I will have to decide it I want to throw $7 at it to get a free game. If they have a BOGO next weekend I will for sure, that will make my GCCs good until the end of June and I play a spot then that I can pick up free wi-fi from my cable provider so I can download stuff then.

I finished Ancient Mosaic, which was one of the more difficult inlay games I have played. I only played the strategy mode.
Today I'll play some more F2P, do my beta, and go out to dinner with DH and father-in-law to celebrate DH's 60th birthday, which is tomorrow.
I see Felix brought Wendy a Christas present, the SE of Christmas Stories: A Christmas Carol is here. Hoping Felix has something for me next week.

You might as well join up, if we don't get a BOGO, there's the end of year sale on the Customer's Favorites. Since you weren't buying games in the summer, there's sure to be something there you'd like.
Definitely try to buy some of the sale food. There's an achievement for purchasing food.
