Re: Finish your games challenge

Yikes wendy! of course I too have Motor Town-Soul of the Machine unplayed but mac versions are different sooo hopefully there will be no glitch in mine. I remember when I demoed it, i wasn't all that captivated but I got it anyway to fill a punch card....It seems we have the same taste in a lot of games I noticed, so hopefully I don't fall asleep!

I just finished the main game of Clockwork Tales-Of Glass and Ink CE by the ever talented Artifex Mundi. This game is really short. The chapters whiz by. I started it last night, played for 20 minutes then picked it up again tonight at midnight and its 2:30 (hello insomnia) and Im already done with the main game. I like it though. Its kind of steam punk and I like that. It reminds me of what Fantastic Creations-House of Brass could have been if they had put a little more effort in that game. Finding weird bugs and having matthew, your mechanical pet bird. I think I got all achievements but...the achievement section is hard to tell what you got and what you didn't soooo its confusing.

However, they spelt words wrong like FREUND for FRIEND...Spelling is one of my pet peeves and bad grammar but I can forgive typing or texting mistakes as long as you d0nT TyPe LiKe DiS  so its  more like people who can't tell the difference between THERE, THEIR and THEY'RE or YOUR and YOU'RE or patients and patience etc. I really should have learned to compete for spelling bees when I was a kid

I have no plan to try out this new Spirits of Mystery game by ERS unless someone posts a review that says there is a change to it somehow and there are no cutesy creatures. I loved the first and second ones in this series but after that it seemed to fall apart...

And of course, I had to edit this because I left out a word after hammering on about grammar and spelling. LOL

Meg, I read that Clockwork Tales: Of Glass and Ink was really short - especially the bonus chapter - but I hadn't realised just how short the main game was.  As I knew how short it was I only got the SE and I'm really glad after reading how short it was for you.  On the other hand, sometimes I like short games so that's good to know.

As for FREUND instead of FRIEND ... Artifex Mundi is situated in Poland and a lot of Poles speak German and, as 'Freund' is German for 'friend', maybe that's why they didn't pick it up as a mistake, just like I often use German words when I'm speaking or writing English without realising as I speak both languages fluently.

I've read that today's ERS game has a cutesy creature.  I haven't demoed it yet but this is cbtx's review:

"I agree with most all of what Nilosh has said above ---- very standard HOPA game, with a very high degree of familiarity.
But that's not so surprising to me with ERS ---- I mean, using the same mechanics, virtually a re-hash of an already told tale, with all too familiar VOs and music ---- just make for another game so similar to many of their others.
But then you have to ask yourself ---- is it fun? And, yes, elements of it are. I could do completely without the goofy-looking critter that speaks "animal" (just plain silly), and I'm not big on potion mixing, but the HO scenes were interesting, the difficulty of the puzzles have been ramped up a bit, and the adventure element is more logical than most ERS games ---- so. like Nilosh, I'll wait for the SE and pick it up with a coupon."

Re: Finish your games challenge

Hubby has company and they're using the desktop chair so I'm at the laptop and old-schooling it this morning, Midnight Mysteries Edgar Allan Poe.  No wandering, just a bunch of HO scenes with limited hints.  I had started it in June so I've forgotten most of the story, oh well...  I'm halfway through.  It came upon a midnight weary, all the scenes are dark and dreary... can't wait to get back to my magical, colorful, beautiful Nearwood.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.

Re: Finish your games challenge

I finished the main game of Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek Collector's Edition, will do the bonus chapter tonight.  For me, this game has held up pretty well. The story is excellent, the puzzles are varied and I love the evidence board.  Not all the HO scenes are interactive (the game was released Sept 2011) and you can't teleport but the map does show where there are things for you to do.

Re: Finish your games challenge

I have finished The Torment of Mont Triste SE. I have mixed feelings about it. Some of the puzzles were really fun and a new take, but some were so confusing so I didn´t know what to do and ended up skipping them. My final conclusion OK+...

Today I got a sneak peek of a new FTP: Awakening Kingdoms. I thought I should try it and ended up playing it for over two hours! A strong competitor to FarmUp on my computer

Re: Finish your games challenge

I thought I had posted this, brain fart moment.  I finished the main game of Dana Knightstone.  I did get all the time achievements without trying.  Sad that the game was that short and very simple puzzles.  I will do the bonus but if the main is any indication it should take 15 mins.  A couple of the chapters took me 20 minutes!  I couldn't believe it.

Anki I got that email to, I'm going to give it a try.  I think I'm going to play something else shiny after I finish the bonus.

Re: Finish your games challenge

Oscar...How disappointing that the Dana Knightstone game is so short.

I started Haunted Manor: Queen of Death and It is really good, but more challenging than I want to do right now so I set it aside and started Legacy: Witch Island.

It has been so long since I got a email for a sneak peak.  Do you guys get the BF newsletter?  I  don't anymore and I thought that is why I am not getting anymore sneak peaks.

With my GameHouse FunPass I played Farm Mystery: Happy Orchard Nightmare yesterday.  A very short game. I say it was about 1 1/2 hours of game time and I was able to finish it in two sittings.  It was just a okay game.

Re: Finish your games challenge

Stusue oops I didn't know Freund was an actual spelling anywhere for Friend! I see now why it was overlooked. I sometimes like short games too but for CEs, I kind of expect a little more depth since Im paying more. The bonus chapter is Dr. Inks story and so far its just a lot of busy tasks like "I can't help you until you find this, this and this for me" And so he is looking for things that are not even related to the story. "I lost my hat and gloves so I can't garden" type stuff. Reminds me of when I had to file papers at my old job. Just plain old work to keep you busy aka busy work lol

I read cbtx's reviews about the game and since I find that... (him? her?, I think its a her...) we feel the same about ERS now compared to what they used to offer, I know its not for me. And when it comes to series, if I didn't care for the 3rd or 4th one, it probably means I won't care for the 5th one either. This is true for me when it comes to the Mystery Tracker games by Elephant. I loved the first and second one but then the 3rd one I found kind of sloppy and elf drives me nuts whining constantly but since I loved the first 2, I bought the 3rd & 4th editions and didn't care much for either.. So even though the 5th one looked good, I gave it a pass. Maybe someday I'll pick it up with as a DD but for right now, I've let that series go...

Last month I played  ridiculous amount of games and this month, i keep getting stuck watching true crime shows, my other guilty pleasure. Sometimes I wish I had taken more criminal justice classes. They aren't any offered at the community college where I live or I'd probably take a few just to have something to do during the day. It just baffles me how seemingly normal people commit these heinous crimes. Makes me so thankful nothing like this has ever happened to my family or others I know and love.

Re: Finish your games challenge

Well I decided to demo Spirits of Mystery-The silver Arrow CE after all and I played it for almost 40 minutes and I was actually really enjoying it thinking to myself wow ERS I might actually buy one of your games again. The hidden object scenes are like put back the object and the silhoutte ones but better done. They were better than I've seen them done in awhile actually AND I liked the story and I knew the husky, Sky was going to be my companion and I was ok with that because I love Huskies especially the colors of their eyes BUT then...you get a gift from the prince and its this thing that looks like a FURBY and it has a special power! It can speak the language of all animals...

And thats where the game went downhill for me because anytime the dog or other animals have something to say, the furby like thing starts making this weird noise and bobbing in the corner and then will tell you what the animal is saying and its voice is just plain annoying and it was just like boring things like "I am in pain and I hurt" but the dog is whining after getting beat up so of course it hurts! You can already tell. But anyway with this added function, the game went from being really good to really annoying and now Im not going to get it even as a SE.

I thought finally an ERS game I like... what a disappointment!
