Tirama, if I remember correctly, the initial post said that they'd be down for a few days (I can't remember exactly how many was stated but it was at least a few days) so everything could still be on schedule.

Thanks. Okay, then they could be deleting some messages, then rekeying the database, and then backing up the new database, then deleting some more messages, and rekeying the database and doing a backup, etc. All of which is going to take time.
I really hope they're succesful and manage to salvage the info in the game forums.

Tirama, can you estimate how long the whole process will take so that the game forums will be up again? the date?

Not really. I have no idea how many of the almost 5.5 million posts are in the game forums. And a lot depends on the type of storage and the level of redundancy of that storage (meaning that BF would naturally have more than one copy of all their data. Just imagine if they had one one copy of your purchase history and that data became corrupted).
Adding link to Hondo's Blog post
Fourth paragraph says:
Beginning Tuesday, August 13th at 3:30pm PST, our forums will enter maintenance mode so we can modify our service and address key technical and performance issues. When the maintenance is complete, the game forums will return but all other general forums will have been retired. We estimate the maintenance period may last several days.
So it's probably too soon to panic about there being a problem.

I've been playing the huge list of game betas that are provided in the Pond forum. Wow!!
I especially liked the Sable Maze beta. Anyone else here playing those betas?
Off to play more.

Me, the Christmas Carol beta was the one I got from there. I am going to play some of the others like the next MCF game and the other Elephant ones, as well as Blue Tea. Isn't it awesome how many betas they have there? I don't know how bfgmcffan got the links but who cares as long as I can try them out.

Where are these betas located?
I did link up to a the FB Pond Friends and Gazebo, but I will probably stick to posting here.
i do get what you mean TiramaSue re the software. I worked in the Financial/Insurance industry and have been involved in many software chage overs from the ground up, when they do work and when they fail.
Personally I was sad to see the forums go but not angry at BFG. I agree it would have degraded even more if left to fester and not closed down soon after the annoucement. I don't see it as forsaking the PC Mac clients. I do play Fairway on my phone and IPad but not really anything else. I want the big screen experience and they give no coupons or credits on those devices. If things were going to change over to handheld Sony and Microsoft and Ninetdo are in trouble.

I only really posted in this thread and Teresa's question of the day along with the game forums. To be quite honest I found some of the threads to feel a little exclusive. It was very sad to see such venom directed to Hondo over the past few months in both the new forum thread and his hilite threads. People were just making biting little comments. Personally I have moved on and this will be my thread d'jour each day.

I've bought WAY more games from BFG than I'll ever play (over 500) so, I'm thinking I'm a sick-o hoarder.
And the only reason its not as big of a problem as many hoarders is that they stay on their virtual shelves and they aren't as obvious as if they were all lying about the house....
jkuci (and teeitup), I have the same affliction, but I don't see it as hoarding. We're collectors! I have over 600 games, mostly from BFG. And I'm determined to play them all, which is why I joined this thread in the first place. I'm about 1/2 way there, but it would be easier if I could stop buying them. I just can't resist a good sale, by which I mean, a BOGO CE sale.

Forums are back up. Well what is left of them anyways. I am still a shark and it is still showing my original post count but only the ones from the game forums are available.. did get to check my PM's that I missed before it ended
