Re: The Chat Lounge

Yikes! tee.  That's a pretty strong earthquake!  Hope everyone is okay.  I'll have to go watch the Weather Channel.

Re: The Chat Lounge

They had an earthquake in my home state of Iowa, too.  Weird.
I watch Storage Wars occasionally.  My dad loved buying and selling, auctions, garage sales.  Everything in our home was for sale and we'd load up our camper and spend the weekend selling at swap meets.  We found people like your junk better if you leave it jumbled in boxes instead of spread out on display; they feel like they've found a treasure if they get to root it out.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Wow, that is a scary thing to wake up to, teeitup.

I like to go to yard sales, not so much the swap meets or flea markets.  I just bought a portable Scunci steam cleaner for $5.00 it looks hardly used and it seems well made.  I have been having fun with it cleaning up the hard to clean areas.  I think my next project with be to clean the exhaust fan by the stove.

Re: The Chat Lounge

First snow of the season today!

I saw the first flakes at 1:22 am as I was washing my hands before going to bed.  I so wanted to stay up and watch the snow but thought I'd better get to sleep.  Especially as I didn't think it would amount to much.

But what a surprise when I woke up to a white world!  Thank heavens I didn't need to shovel as the paths are all supposed to be cleared by 7 am when the kids start biking to school.   And I sure wasn't up and about by then!

And, as a special treat to myself for the first white day this winter, I left the heating on all day!  I never have the heating on all day - just a couple of hours in the morning before I get up and a few hours at night - as it's so expensive.  I just rug up and don't feel the cold so I'm fine.  But today I allowed myself the luxury of a nice, warm house all day!

But boy is it freezing biking when it's this cold!  I thought my face was gonna freeze then fall off!  And my thigh muscles weren't able to warm up enough to make it easy to pedal as it was just too cold, so it was really hard biking to the letterbox and back to post my DVD back!

(me all rugged up to bike in the freezing temps with my face turning to ice in the cold)

I took some photos so I'll post them in my photos thread tomorrow as I can't find the cable to connect my camera to the 'puter.

Anyone else freezing in the snow yet?

Sunshine ... how's the exhaust fan going?

Re: The Chat Lounge

Yikes stusue! We had our first measurable snow a week or two ago, but it didn't last.  I'm glad we haven't had more because we really have a lot of leaves on the trees.  Snow plus lots of leaves usually means power outages.  Not for me because our lines are underground.  Can you close some heat vents in rooms you don't use (or almost close them) so you aren't heating empty space?  I don't have my heat very high, 16 Celsius, but I'm comfortable.

ETA:Oops!  Thast was supposed to be 18C

Re: The Chat Lounge

No snow, but it was unseasonably cold last weekend (long sleeves/sweater weather) so I made some beef stew.

I'd be freezing at 16C  (60F).  I've lived in Florida too long, anything under 78 makes me shiver.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Snow already.    Yikes!  What a contrast to the gorgeous weather I'm getting.  Was in the 60's yesterday so husband & I went for a long walk(4 miles and legs are sore today).  Took a jacket with me and halfway through felt like I was melting, so carried the jacket the rest of the way.

Fall foliage was magnificent this year and seemed later than usual for the peak time.  Usually it is early October and this year was around Halloween.  Mid October we went took a ride to  the mountains and it wasn't quite the peak of colorfulness yet.

stusue...Vents are looking clean as a whistle.  I love using that little steam cleaner.  Fun to use and makes yucky jobs much easier.

Re: The Chat Lounge

I haven't been posting lately 'cause I haven't been playing much.  The last six and a half years have been stressful to say the least, first with my mom and dad and then my oldest son staying with me.  Things have really been rough for him this last 6 months and on top of everything he has been dealing with, he was diagnosed with tongue cancer (smoker) the first of this month.  Between picking him up everyday at 3:30 pm and driving him 30 miles to work (got a job, finally, at Whirlpool-fabrication tech) and picking him up at 3:00 am plus preliminary Dr. visits, have mostly been doing x-stitch in my free time.  One bright note, though, he is living in a Sober Living Home (3 months sober) and I have my peace and quiet at home back .

Another bright spot for me, finally, is I'm leaving early Thursday morning to fly to Maui with 9 friends for a whole week.  I've never been and about a year ago, a friend who is a big Okla. State basketball supporter told us they were playing in a basketball tournament Thanksgiving week in Maui and anyone who wanted to could go.  I knew my parents' probate would be done and this would probably be my only chance to go, so am going to treat myself to one of the items on my bucket list.  So excited I can hardly wait.  Will board my dogs for a week and be back late Thanksgiving aft.  We've got a luau planned and a sunset dinner cruise and I may go to one of the games (they will be playing 3 days) but plan to just soak up the beautiful sun and scenery.  My brother lived in Honolulu for 3 yrs in the 70's for part of his residency in Urology and loved it.  Never got over there but my folks went twice and both my boys took honeymoons there so decided it was momma's turn to have some fun.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
