Re: Finish your games challenge - 2016

Time for your Monday morning Sneak Peek! Here are the games releasing this week

Mobile:

Maestro: Dark Talent Collector's Edition
PuppetShow: The Face of Humanity Collector's Edition
Vampire Legend: The Untold Story of Elizabeth Bathory CE

PC/MAC:

Dead Reckoning: Death Between the Lines Collector's Edition  by  Eipix
Lost Lands: The Wanderer Collector's Edition  by  FIVE-BN Games

All About Casual Game has  Delicious: Emily's Christmas Carol Collector's Edition  by Gamehouse also being released in October, so I wonder if it will be released tomorrow like all the other GameHouse games.  If so, BFG sure got the latest Delicious game soon after GameHouse released it!  GH only released it last week!  But maybe because it's a Christmas game.  I got it with my of my reward codes (equivalent to BFG's PCCs but can also be used for Platinum games, ie. CEs) the day it was released.  I just wanted to check that it was as good as all the past ones before I got it, then I was planning on leaving it to play at Christmas.  However, I played a lot more than I'd wanted to play as I didn't want to stop.  For those who like the Delicious games, it's exactly like the last one (when you don't choose the menu according to the customers but rather by what you get if you choose something).  But the story is as good as always, which is the real selling point for the whole stable of the Delicious games and all the spinoffs.  Paige is so cute and is now in preschool.

I finished the main game of 9: The Dark Side.  The gameplay was good and the puzzles were excellent, but something still felt lacking.  I realized it was that the story was too generic.  A clan of 9 that are all ghosts now and you play as the last descendant and you must fight off some evil.  What am I the last descendant of? The clan of 9, who are they?  Why am I fighting off a demon?  Nothing was made clear, everything was so vague. Story was too bland for me.  I am all about the story.

So, I am seeking recommendations on a game with a great story.  Any suggestions?

Sun, have you tried the following?

Occultus: Mediterranean Cabal
Forgotten Places: Regained Castle

These are both very different games to the usual and are 2 of the best games I've ever played.  As far as I can remember, they both play like LFAs with some HOPs and MGs to appeal to the masses.  And, if you turn off all help (contextual pointers, etc.), they are both extremely challenging and, if I remember correctly, story driven.  They are both nothing like any of the regular HOPAs, which may explain why they both got crap reviews and so few stars at BFG.

Both are straight SEs but were VERY long!
    Occultus  =  11.5 hours!
    Forgotten Places  =  9.5 hours - 7.5 hrs (game) + a bit under 2 hours (extras)

The comments I jotted down immediately upon finishing each game:

Occultus  -  Wow!  What a twist at the end!  Wow!  What a game!  The most challenging game I've ever played and everything about it was amazing!!!!

Forgotten Places  -  Best game I've ever played!  Challenging - amazing graphics and music!

There was a third game I was going to recommend but I can't remember what it is right now.  And, as it's now the wee hours of the morning, I'm going to bed and will add it tomorrow if I can remember what it was.

As for Harrowed Halls: Lakeview Lane CE, I really want to play it and was considering getting it using the weekend's code, but I read that, even though the bonus chapter is good, it's short.  So, without a lot of extras, I'm going to wait until the SE is released, or maybe if there's a BOGOF before then (and the weekend code works on the Monday, which is a BP Monday, of course).

Thanks stusue...I d/l the demo to try Forgotten Places: Regained Castle and I'm halfway through.  Tonight I will finish up and next I will d/l the demo to try Occultus and decided which one when I have played both demos.  I love a good story.

Wendy, welcome back!      How was your season this year?

Tirama, welcome back!      I hope you had a fun time!

Tirama, you may be right about the sale codes.  However, I think they've always said that a sale can't be combined with other discounts.  But you couldn't even if you wanted to as you can only put one code in, so there's no way to combine any discounts.  And there's also a Grim Facade sale on today, and the weekend's code still works, so I'm not sure that it has anything to do with combining codes.  However, once again, the code works and the sale wasn't $6.99 for CEs.  I'm waiting to see what happens when we have another $6.99 sale (BOGOF or 65%) and see if the code works then the day after, as that's the only common thing that I've noticed so far.  But maybe they're just playing with us.

Lately, I've only been buying games when there is a Super Sale (CE's 4.99) and the full price CE is something I want.  Ad they usually happen on Thursday-Friday.  But since there doesn't seem to be guarantee that the codes will still work on Monday, I don't think I'll take a chance, even if a Super Sale is offered on a weekend.

I finished the last Final Cut and Thanksgiving Day Griddlers

Going to play Dark Dimensions: Somber Song Collector's Edition and Dark Dimensions: Homecoming Collector's Edition next.

I've finished 67 games this year, but thanks to the last super sale and bonus punch day, I've added 72 games to my collection.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2016

OMG, I've got a new favourite game!
I've just played the   B E S T   G A M E   E V E R !
With the most   A M A Z I N G  L Y   B R I L L I A N T   graphics.
And the crystal-clearest   F A N - F * * K I N G - T A S T I C   animation I've ever seen.
The water sloshing around in the helmet as you bring it up in the well is   U N B E L I E V A B L E.
And the music is   A B S O L U T E L Y   S U B L I M E !

And the name of this amazing game ????

CURSED  by  Jetdogs

Unfortunately, not yet available at BFG.      But released today by GH.
And the good news?
It's a straight SE !!!!
It's only just over 4 hours long but wow, what a 4 hours!
With something like 50 scenes - and I want every single one of them as a wallpaper!!!!

And Sunshine, it's very similar to the 2 games you're demoing ... plays like a LFA game - 90% adventure with inventory puzzles, with just a few MGs and HOPs thrown in (I noted only 7 or 8 each, but I might have forgotten to jot them all down).  And it has a story that comes out little by little as you find letters from you fiancé (a cutscene each time when he reads them to you) and diaries (?) from the owner of the mansion (also cutscenes when he reads them to you).  The story's nothing new, so that may not interest you, but it's such a polished game (and I didn't see the twist, although I should have), that I highly recommend it, anyway.  So, if you like both of those, you should love this one!  I just wish it were as long as they were...

I'll give a more balanced review tomorrow as it's time I

But before I go I'll just say that I don't recommend this game for anyone with a problem with ...

  -  attacking demon bats  (which made me recoil - it was so real! - then laugh)
  -  attacking snakes  (which made me recoil - it was so real! - then laugh)
  -  attacking skeletons  (which made me jump, then laugh, then keep going back to watch again)
  -  attacking scorpions
  -  attacking dragon statues
  -  demon arms/goblins/creatures jumping out at you
(which made me jump then laugh - every - single - time)
  -  bugs ... lots of bugs
  -  scary cats with demon eyes
  -  demons
  -  killing demons and demon creatures
  -  pentagrams
  -  performing a ritual on a pentagram  (just placing the items on it)

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2016

Hi Stu

I just played and finish Cursed today. The graphics are great and the story too. It was really short for me though and I didn't want it to end.

I didn't play it yesterday as I was finishing Graven: The Purple Moon Prophecy which I started on Sunday. LOVED it in fact I used a credit to buy it because it will take me several plays to find all the mistletoe! Pretty long game too, if it had had a bonus chapter it could have been a good CE. No need for a bonus chapter though and it does have achievements too.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2016

stusue...After playing both demos,  I like the Forgotten Places: Regained Castle one a little bit better and going to go with that one.  Thanks for the recommendations and I will keep the other one in mind for the future.

stusue...I have been playing The Agency of Anomalies: Cinderstone Orphanage off and on since it took awhile to get into it and thought of you when the BBT gave too much help.  For example...there is a ice pick stuck in the wood and the BBT said I will need some oil to get this out  or there was a empty bird feeder and the BBT said I think I saw some crackers in the pantry.  I know how you hate that stuff.

I second the game Fudge just played... Graven: The Purple Moon Prophecy.  A really good game and I had trouble finding all the mistletoe too.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2016

No need for a calendar.  There's a sale on MCF games so it must be November.

I finished 6 games in October:  4 CE's and 2 nonograms.

Not even going to check to see how many games I acquired in October.  I know it was more than 6.

Currently working on Queen's Garden Halloween (completed 1st garden and 50% of second garden) and Dark Dimensions: Homecoming Collector's Edition.  Also playing the ART Halloween event and the MC Halloween/Thanksgiving event and Castle Challenge.
