Re: The Chat Lounge

More thunderstorms this morning.   And one or two firecrackers went off last night.  It's going to be a long, painful weekend for my little girl.

Re: The Chat Lounge

they aren't allowed to sell at pet stores here either due to puppy mills.  I wouldn't recommend getting a puppy from a pet store.  I'd say definitely go thru a breeder if you want a purebred puppy.  Or maybe check Sheltie rescue.  You never know.  My guys were all over $1000. I had a rottie 22 years ago (wow!) and he cost about $350 mainly because he was the runt and the guy wanted to get rid.  He was a great dog.

I would entertain getting another dog but something smaller so I will have to wait until Eddie matures a bit. He is huge and a little heavy handed when he wants to play.  He did that little paw out thing on the shoulder, I want to play to the neighbours Aussie Shepherd and he practically collapsed under his paw.  I think perhaps he thinks he is Fudge sized.  I think I'll check with the shelters when we're ready.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Poor Tiff.  Tank was exactly the same way.  I saw a little something on Pinterest to wrap dogs in a certain way around the chest, like a figure eight and it's supposed be calming.  Have you tried anything like that?

It is Canada Day here so there will be fireworks.  Eddie isn't bothered by them nor storms if he's inside.  He did have to go out and it was pouring.  When the crackle of thunder came he looked and skittered to the door pretty quick but once inside he was okay.  Tank was always totally beside himself with this weather much like Tiff is.  Sometimes he would hide in the closet.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Earlier this year a friend of my ex-h died.  We'd known him for about 15yrs.  He was 39.  He'd just had a baby with a gf.  Sad.  It's a small world because I knew my neighbour knew him but was unaware another neighbour was a cousin.  Anyways me being me was concerned because he had a dog that he'd had for around 8+ yrs and I was worried what would happen to him. He loved him and I felt like the dog was going to be just lost without him.  And the gf hadn't been around as long as the dog.  I actually voiced this to my neighbour who looked at me like I'd lost my mind.  But it bothered me.

Last week I was walking my bear a couple of streets over and someone I knew got out of the car for a chat.  Told her about Tank's death and she had said her mom who lived there had thought something was amiss as she kept waiting for me to walk by with him.  she always came out for a cuddle. She brings her dog over there to her moms and was telling me that they had gotten a new dog and had two now.  I got telling her the story about this friend and my concern for his dog because really after being so long together a dog would be so confused to be abandoned.  She just smiled at me and said, he was my husband's cousin too and he is the dog we adopted.  I tell you my heart was lightened and I got all teary to know that he had been lucky enough to have their home to go to. very small world we live in.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Fudge is SO scared of thunder and fireworks too. It's the one and only think she is scared of. Snoozle doesn't care, she's so laid back.

LOL, Oscar, and Fudge and Snoozle think they are Eddie's size! (Apart from loud bangs in Fudge's case)

How lovely and heart-warming about the dog whose Daddy had sadly passed at such a young age. So pleased the dog has a loving home. it is a small world.

Re: The Chat Lounge

sunshine, my boys are silkyhuahua's, (half chihuahua/silky terrier) and they were rescue dogs.  Think I paid $40 each for them as they are brothers and a friend was fostering them.  Baxter is stouter and has coarser hair but Bailey has more of the chihuahua face and silkier hair.  I used to have yorkie terriers and they were the only dogs I paid money for ($250, I think) but that was over 20 yrs ago.

Re: The Chat Lounge

I'm doing my Snoopy happy dance.  I bought myself a small, 12ftx39.5in round pool that I am currently filling after a couple of neighbours helped me build it. It has been stinking hot here on and off and the rest of the week is going to be in the 30s (Celsius).  My grass is already hay so I'm not killing the lawn.  It is a teeny bit on a slant which of course translates to more so i'm keeping an eye on it to see if there is a bulge.  I can't wait to get in it!
