Re: The Chat Lounge

Thanks everyone.  Yes he didn't have a lot of time.  It's been a little over 5 weeks since he was diagnosed initially.  I hate to think how long he was suffering before that little cough surfaced. I made those weeks extra special and so did he. Couple of things he did on our last walk I swear he did them cause he knew it always made me laugh.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Hubby told me he quit his job.  I don't really blame him.  He liked it but when he was hired the beginning of December he was getting 25-30 hrs. a week.  They weren't really open in Jan/Feb although he got a day here or there.  They told him it would pick up around March/April but he's still only getting one or two days and they're only 5  hour days.  The last two weeks he's only gotten one day/wk.  So like $50/wk.  I can see why he doesn't want to bother with it anymore.  I just wish they would  have been more honest about the hours he would get, he could have been looking for something closer all this time.  He says he's going to look for some kind of construction job since it's warmer.
Speaking of warmer, we actually saw some snow flurries the last few days but now we've descended from the Berkshire Mts. and we have a whole week with temps in the 70s and very low chance of rain.  Yeah!

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.

Re: The Chat Lounge

wendy...Did your hubby find something yet?  I don't blame him for not wanting to work somewhere for only 5 hours a week especially when you want to work more hours.

Re: The Chat Lounge

imo he should have been looking for something all along to go with it or replace it.  Sorry Wendy I just feel like you carry everything.

I have three jobs now.  All pt, just nothing full time going and my volunteer  thing and I manage to work everything around.  The one job is min wage and only 5 -10hrs a week but it's something.  The other two are at least 20hrs a week each.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Odd question of the day, expiry dates, how much attention do you pay to them?

Re: The Chat Lounge

For dairy I pay attention to the expiration date.
For dry goods, no not really.  Only if they taste stale do I throw them out.
For medicine...I looked this one up and the longer past the expiration date the less potent it is.  I personally don't use it if it is 2 years or more past the expiration date.

Re: The Chat Lounge

oscar -- Pretty much what sunshinej said.  I've asked my pharmacist about prescription drugs.  I was told that they are usually good for one year after the fill date.  Do you just mean expiration dates or are you also asking about "best by" dates?  Canned food -- soup, tuna, baked beans -- seem fine to me way after the date -- as long as the can isn't bulging or leaking.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Ditto on cans and dry goods for me as well.  On dairy I guess I'm far more lenient than you both.  I asked this because we can buy milk in cartons as well as bags with 3 one litre bags inside.  I don't think they do this In the States.  Then it slips into this milk jug.  Anyways I just use it period.  You know when milk has turned and I noticed the one bag I was finishing up was 15 days past the BBdate.  I was surprised, cause normally if I had an unopened bag and say the date on the side I'd just dump it.  I only use it in coffee or cooking, not to just drink and it was fine. Also sour cream, I keep using that as well as yogurt, I mean you know if it's gone off just looking at it, smell etc. I read an article about this once regarding how wasteful society was because of these dates.  Lol Canadians in particular pay pretty close attention to these.  I freeze a lot of stuff.  Buy the big bars of cheese put it thru my food processor and then freeze.  I find cheese nowadays starts going mouldy pdq. I even keep all my baking stuff and baked goods in the freezer.
