Thanks, Lily!

When we get storms coming up from the Antarctic when there's a huge swell we get monster waves and the kids surf here ... at an inner-harbour beach!

Re: StuSue's Photos

And now for something totally different ...

We're off to Germany!

Looking from my front door down the driveway to the road in winter (obviously, given the snow...) before I've shovelled

View across the road from my attic (where my study is) on one of the extremely ... and I mean extremely! ... rare days when we see the sun in winter

Re: StuSue's Photos

WOW!! I don't think I've ever seen birds like that outside of an aviary!

The 2nd picture from Germany -- is the snow really that deep (plowed up across the road) or is it just perspective?

This is what it normally looks like in winter ... the previous photo was an aberration

Re: StuSue's Photos

This is one of my baby Great Tits, about 20 secs after it had flown the coop.  It looks like its ready for a fight!

There were about 6 or 7 babies and I sat out on my verandah every morning from about 6 am so that I saw them leave.  I have about a dozen birdhouses in my garden and I normally have 2 or 3 bird couples taking up residence in spring (more in winter).  I also normally have 1 or 2 other types of birds building nests in my trees.  This little family was the only one I've spotted fledging.  Unfortunately, most of my photos are back in Germany but I found this one.  This little baby flew straight at me and I had to duck before it flew straight into my face!

You can see the really wide beak so that its parents (both care for the babies until about 3 or 4 weeks after fledging) can easily put worms, etc, in its beak.  I always have lots of feed outside for all the birds and wildlife that come into my garden (hedgehogs, squirrels, etc).  I normally have 3 or 4 different bird families brooding in my garden in spring ... Great Tits, Blue Tits, Blackbirds, Red Robins, etc.
