StuSue's Photos

This photo shows the view from my mum's apartment.

The entrance to Sydney Harbour is bounded by 2 headlands, North Head and South Head (I know, super original).  On the photo you can see North Head, the big headland jutting out from the left to about the middle of the photo.  South Head is hidden behind the headland that juts out from the right, which is Middle Head (which is where the naval base is located).  So we can't see the entire entrance to the harbour but we see every ship that enters or leaves, be it yachts, cruise ships, navy boats, tall ships or container ships.  The ships enter near North Head then turn and go behind Middle Head and around to the main harbour and the city.

You can see the kiddies' rock swimming pool that's right in front of our building, which fills up at high tide and almost empties at low tide, as well the shadows of our building, a palm tree, and the house next door.  If you look carefully you can also see one of the ferries heading to Manly (one of the most famous beaches in Sydney) right by North Head, surrounded by yachts.  As this photo was taken in winter, there aren't many yachts on the harbour.  If this photo had been taken in summer the harbour would be filled with yachts of all the colours of the rainbow.

Here's the view looking the other way, down the beach on a beautiful summer's day.

You can see the end of the kiddie's rock swimming pool at the bottom, the little island that separates the 2 beaches, the best restaurant around in the white building on the right, and the naval base on the headland in the distance on the left of the photo.

The main part of the harbour and the city (including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House) are on the other side of that headland.

A rainbow above the Heads

You can just see the Naval Base Hospital at the bottom right of the photo.
