Re: The Chat Lounge

Sunshine, Wendy, Oscar and Lily, thanks so much!

The palliative care team has just been to assess Mum and we've worked out what strategy we're going to be going with.  Mum's very reluctant to increase her liquid morphine but I've got her to agree to a compromise to their compromise and we'll see how she goes.  But she's feeling a lot better today, back to how she was feeling before the awful day yesterday, which she can't remember, thinking it was on Monday and that she'd spent the day in bed.  Hopefully she'll start feeling a little more comfortable, although not as comfortable as she would be if she were to take the dosage as often as they recommend!  But as least she's agreed to a compromise, so that's at least something.  But it took a great deal of logical arguments on my part to get her to agree to anything!

Praying that the breathlessness is fluid.  If not, would it be possible to get someone in at night so you could sleep?  A friend kept her DH home  when he was diagnosed with ALS.  Towards the end she had someone at night to help him.  She got woken up if he needed pain meds (she;s an RN) but she got much needed sleep.  {{{ }}}  <---big, gentle, caring hugs for you both.

Lily, they don't want to put Mum through anything if they can help it as it would be a major thing for her (exhausting and a big problem as she's on Warfarin) so they'd rather treat whatever it is by upping her liquid morphine (which she's super reluctant to do).  The option of a nurse here during the night has been mentioned near the end but atm Mum sleeps right through the night (10 hours last night) and with her type of cancer she's in very little pain, only the occasional dull ache that seems to move from spot to spot in her body, and they said that if she doesn't have any pain now she shouldn't have any later on.  That's a huge relief.  For Mum it's just the breathlessness that's the problem, as well as the bursitis in her right shoulder, which stops her from doing so many things, like making it really hard for her to stand up as she can't push off with that arm.

Re: The Chat Lounge

stusue -- Thanks for explaining all that!  I'm glad that your mother can sleep soundly during the night and you, at least in theory, have the opportunity to get some sleep.  I do worry about you both.  Prayers continue.

You're in so much pain from the pen stab you forget about your cramp, lol.   I've read to drink some tonic water, or quinine?
Glad to see  you back, Mila.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.
