I just got back from the tax guy, too, Tirama... imagine this as a sad hug. I kill myself because since I'm self employed I could have it all ready months ago but not me... dragging it out til the last minute like usual.

It's a DIY project for me. I could have done this the beginning of February. I don't know why I wait so long.
Yes I do. I hate that the government no longer mails me a paper return and instructions. I hate having the return open in one window, the instructions in another, an additional publication in a third window, a spreadsheet program open so that I can do the math. And I hate having to go look for an envelope and stamps.

I don't mail mine until the 15th, the post office is close to McDonalds, we get the BOGO on tax day. I know what you mean about the envelopes and stamps, they're around here somewhere. I have a bunch of 2 cent stamps from way back when the price went up. I just put a bunch of outdated ones on and hope.

Can't you electronically file in the States?

Mila -- Loved the picture of the dog and the cupcakes!
oscar -- Yes, we can electronically file in the US BUT...there are forms that need to go with the tax form and I don't have any way of scanning them.
I'll be mailing my taxes tomorrow (4/14) because I'm noit planning on going out on the 15th.

Usually the people with simple taxes file electronically, people who just have income from their jobs and not a lot of investment income, etc. Everyone who gets money back files right away, and everybody who has to pay, like me, waits till the last minute. My gripe with myself is that I could have it all done in February and then just wait until 4/15 to mail it in, but I don't even start getting my paperwork done until April. And I'm usually the kind of person who wants to get my chores done and over with so I don't have to worry about them, don't know why I drag butt on this every year.
I'm leaving a week from Thursday, my goodness the time flies. I'll be there a week before we open, earlier than I need to be, but the airfares go up on the weekend and I'm cheap (and poor) so I fly on the last cheap day I can get. We stay at the carnival owner's property for the first spot and drive back and forth to where we're set up at the mall, the only time we have to commute. We have 24 hour power, though, so that's nice. And there's a convienance store at the corner and it has a Subway in it, it's great that it's right there but I end up eating Subway every day for 2 weeks. (It's a sandwich shop). Well, this spring I have my extra fridge and an electric frying pan so I can cook a little.

This year I had to upgrade my tax software as one of my friends I do taxes for has a home based business. one has investment income, lots of receipts etc. All can e-file. You just have to keep your backup in case they want to see it. The Canadian govt is actually phasing out cheques by 2016, I'm not sure how those without a bank account will cope with that. Everything with them is electronic. Even all my payroll and tax filings with the business are electronic. I have one last thing to set up electronically with them for next year.
Mine has been processed already, it took about 10 days. I had over 6k in medical receipts about double my norm but they never asked to see them. I thought they might because of the aberration.
Does the U.S. have something similar to Canada? I have this online account I set up with them and you can do everything on it, change deposit info, address and it has all copies of your tax returns there from years prior. Personally I'm a little anal about paperwork so I have them for the last 10 years instead of 7. It lists when you are getting refunds, dates of deposits etc. it's quite handy.
