Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Pamkatz has a thread up thanking someone for buying an item for 6million, and saying she will use it to help newcomers.  People are always complaining about auction sharks and the prices of the items in the auction and they got outbid or someone bought all their low priced items when they were just trying to help people new to the game.  In real life I'm very competitive but I don't mind losing.  I hate when somebody 'lets' me win, I'd rather lose.  I don't want anybody to take it easy on me, I want what I get to be because I earned it.  If I play a sport I want an honest effort from someone, that's how I can measure myself and see if I'm getting better.
When I started these games nobody helped me.  And it was hard but I rose to the challenge and I'm proud of what I've accomplished.  Without money.  I remember how hard it was to get building supplies and how I had to troll the auctions looking for any kind of bargain that I could resell so I could afford a pair of Worker's Boots.  And Lily didn't even do the auctions for the longest time, IIRC, so it was even harder for her.  But aren't you proud of what you accomplished?  I'm glad nobody helped me.  That was the challenge of the game.  I didn't even get the glitch gold, in fact I even lost some because I though things were in auction for 100 coins and bought them, not realizing it was 100 gold, I didn't even have the update to be able to do that.  I know some of you got the gold, but I don't think you've really used it, have you?  You've basically played with what you earned yourself.  And of course we've helped each other with DQs, but that's not the real game.
I kind of seem like I"m babbling, but it always just kinda irritates me when people think it's such a good thing to just give people things.  It means so much more to earn it yourself.  I'm not saying it's not nice to give, people give me stuff all the time and I really appreciate it, but it's just so much better to earn it yourself if you can.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I used some of the glitch gold before I lost it, spent more gold than what was legitimately mine. But the only reason I received so much glitch gold (11 million) is because I worked my butt of to have that many coins. (The glitch was adding the price of the article you sold for gold bars to the number of coins you had and saving that amount as your new gold total)

Bought mostly food which increased my max energy to an obscene amount (22,300 it is now).   But I rarely use that energy because there's really nothing to use it on between special events.  For months my energy bar has just sat there full.

Some of the food is still in my inventory because I just din't have any reason to use it.  Heck, I still have food left from what I bought for 2014's valentine day event.

When I lost my gold, I did accept the gift of 1,000 bars and 200 bars from two people because I was worried I would need some for the upcoming 4th of July event.  Turns out we didn't need it and I'd love to return it to them, but can't because we can no longer auction special collectibles.

The attitudes about the auction annoy the heck out of me.  If teh price is too high, then don't pay it.  If you list something as a steal of a deal, don't be surprised when anybody playing when it's listed gabs it.  It's not rocket science.

I don't want my friends to go easy on me in the auctions and let me win.  If I've bid on something and you're willing to pay more, go for it.  But if you think it's okay to overbid somebody, don't cry to me when I do it to you.

I think a lot of people aren't interested in playing the game so much as they are interested in keeping up with the leaders.  It's a blow to their self-esteem if somebody has more coins or more inventory.  So rather than do the work, they cry for help or complain about sharks, or complain that they can't afford to pay to play, etc.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Wendy & Tirama -- Interesting posts you have here.  I'm still not a fan of the auction and only go there occasionally.  I have spent some of my glitch gold (never had millions to begin with) but I usually try to win or find stuff.  Al the whining about the auctions drives me nuts too.  One day DirkT outbid me (by a coin or two) for my DQ.  He had only bid on it because it was cheap. No big deal to me.   I can't prove it and could be totally wrong, but I think lots of the whining comes from a sense of entitlement (parents giving their kids everything their little hearts desire & this "everyone is the best, everyone gets a trophy" nonsense) and the short attention spans most younger people have due to TV, video games, smart phones.  Also, no one wants to save to buy something.  They want it NOW.

ETA:  It would be interesting to see how much of the 6 million goes to newbies.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

The only thing really hard about the game is the scramble for building supplies at the beginning, and if you're patient even that's not a really major issue.   I remember never having enough money to buy anything at the auction when I started, but once I restarted and knew what I know now, even that part wasn't too hard, just get the photography studio up and running and you can retire from selling posh scarves and whatever the other 1 film thing is, I'm thinking a hat. .  T

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

You're thinking of the Deerstalker.

I put in a lot of hours buying and reselling on the auction.  It wasn't so much hard as it was time consuming.  You have to be able to tell instantly when something's a good deal.  No time to check notes, you snooze you lose.

And after the special events, everybody is overstocked in the exact same items, which shakes up the pricing.  Remember after last spring event, we were having Buy My Junk sales.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

Both games have  become so boring, ART with the steady stream of building and AK with the chest.  I hate to say, but I haven't even really checked out the new locations on the map, there hasn't really been a reason to , except to use energy.  I might be more enthusiastic if I didn't have so many games going at once.

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I started down teh quest line started by Billy Craig, which leads to playing the new cities and opening up more mini scenes, but dropped it.  There's too many complaints about things being glitchy.  I'm just concentrating on the building quests and resting up for the Spring Event.

I wish ART had a Dark Chest equivalent that asked for Hagia Sophias, Graphite Writing Implements, Blue & Yellow Plates, etc.  Or people asked for this crap in the DQ's instead of Jillian expecting me to hand over hammers, glue and other mini game resources.  Or ask me for brinks, paint, or logs.  I've got thousands of them.  Where is Gobie when you need him?

Re: Antique Road Trip: American Dreamin'

I've got 2 museum buildings at level 4, soon to be joined by another presently under construction.  The dinsosaur hall is at level 2 and I'm searching for pipes in New Zealand.  Need 18 more.  Hope I can find them all tomorrow.

These building quests make the old bow figurine look like child's play.  That quest would only take a week or so and you got to cycle through 20-22 hidden object scenes.  With the museum quests, I'm playing the same 6 scenes over and over and over and

I've got the dinsosaur hall under level 3 construction.  Tomorrow I can go search for bones.
