Hi Anki! I saw you sent me a gift, I wondered where you had been. Did you do the update? We have a port now! Can't wait to see what the islands are like.
Yea stusue, toasty toes are on the way.
I didn't play much last night, I was so pooped I was in bed by 11:30. But I do find Mountain Trap Manor of Memories quite engrossing, story is a little odd, but there is lots to wander around and do.

Heating's back on, boiler's boiling away, all the heaters are turned on, now I just have to wait for the boiler to heat up and for all that lovely warm water to go shooting all around my house to heat it up. It's currently 8 degrees (late 30s F) inside my house so I wonder how long it's going to take to warm my whole house?
Oscar, you speaking of finding the game you'd been looking for, brought to mind a game that I betaed waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back on 5 January last year that hasn't been released yet!
I've been googling it for the past hour but can't find anything except lots of places to download the beta. I'm downloading the beta again now onto this computer so that I can play it again. I checked out my beta notes I posted here and it was one of only 2 games I've ever betaed to which I gave full marks and said that I would certainly buy it. I also posted that it was so almost perfect (only 1 typo) and so finished that I imagined it was about to be released ... but still no game.
Name : Nightwalkers: The Lurker, or I think changed to Nightwalkers: Drawn to the Woods
Developer: Media Art
Anyone know anything about this game? Heard about it? Ever known a game that was so polished take this long and STILL not be released?
I SO wanna play this game!

Has anyone demoed "The Emptiness" yet? Sounds different and is by City of Fools devs.

OMG stusue! I'm so glad you've got heat again. How did it get that low? Did you miss a delivery while you were in Australia? Was the winter colder than usual so you used more? With it that cold I'm surprised no pipes burst. Hope it won't be long until you're all comfy.
Welcome bacvk anki! Yikes! 27 days without Internet? You sure were productive though! I probably don't finish that many games in a year.
Wendy -- I think someone talked about THE EMPTINESS but i can't remember.

It's already up a whole degree!!!
Lily, the boiler was still going, keeping the pipes from freezing. It's just that the only heater I had turned on was in the cellar. The rest of the house just got colder and colder as I didn't know when the boiler would cut out (it cuts out before it gets down to zero) and I had to keep the pipes from freezing and be able to turn the hot water on to shower, so I was trying my best save as much oil as possible to keep the boiler going. Now I don't have to worry for years as I just had 5000 litres delivered !!!!
I have no idea how it got that low as I had 32 cm left when I got back from Australia. I was going to get some before I left for Australia but I just didn't get around to it but I managed to get it when the oil was almost at it's lowest price since 2008! So, in waiting to get it I got 5000 litres, whereas I would have gotten less than 3000 litres for the same money only 6 months ago. How was that? And, had I waited until today to place the order, it would have cost me another 300 €, about another $450! Timing is everything when ordering heating oil. It normally stresses me out so much, when to buy, that it normally brings on a CFS relapse, another reason why I ordered 5000 litres, which is great as it's already jumped so much in a week!

Wendy, I not only demoed The Emptiness but got it last Monday. This is what I remember of my impression when I demoed it the day it was released by BFG:
It's a really weird, totally different game. You're in a house and all you do is wander around to find a door with an emblem thing on it, then wander around the house to find pieces of paper with clues on them as to where to find the letters of the word you need to open that door (a spell). Then, once you're past that door, you have to find another door, find the clues, find the letters, get through that door, then find another door ...
You've really gotta love walking around, trying to find clues, as that's about all you do. Oh, and I came across 2 labyrinths in the demo but you're given a map in the first one to help. It had a ghost and you have to scare the ghost into a blocked room to get rid of it. That was heaps of fun. You have to look at the map to see where the ghost is in relation to where you are, then work out how to get there (with only a torch), then work out which way you wanted the ghost to go and make it go that way, then perhaps you have to go all the way around to get to the other side of the ghost so push it the way you want to go, eventually getting it into the blocked room. The other labyrinth was a real doozy but I worked out the trick to getting through.
I stopped the demo when I got through a door and it was pitch black and I only had a torch and I couldn't see a thing except a little circle of light. Now, I don't suffer from claustrophobia, but boy did I feel it when I got through that door!!!!
I immediately exited the game (I didn't like the feeling of that room) and put it on my To Buy list, getting it last Monday. I've never been affected like that from a game before. I'll deal with that room again when I start from scratch properly. But to play in daylight (less atmosphere) or at night, in the dark, when I may be scared silly in a house, in the dark, all on my own...
You don't seem to do much in the game - it's all adventuring with a few puzzles like the labyrinths - but wow is the atmosphere terrific! People have likened it to those games where you have to try and exit a room with no door. I think the game they referred to was Rooms(?).
It's a game that you definitely have to demo yourself. I think it's a game that you'll either love or it's a game that will bore you stupid. You have to have a lot of patience and either a great memory for the layout of the house (no map) or draw your own as you wander around and around from room to room.

stusue...I'm so glad you finally got your oil delivery before you got turned into a popsicle. Now you can enjoy the nice warmth and take off a blanket or two. BTW I like your signature line. So true.
Since I only had 12 chapters left to finish Lost in the City and the chapters were not very long, I squeezed it in and finished it. I didn't care for it too much and will delete this one off my computer. Usually I just leave them on in case i want to replay anything. This game I don't want to replay.

stusue -- I'm so glad you got the heating oil and at a good price! Thanks for the explanation about why your house was so cold but you weren't worried about the pipes (since the heater was on in the basement). THE EMPTINESS is a game I'll be staying a loooong way away from! I LOVE GARDENSCAPES! I think because of Austin. Personally I hope they make more of them. I won't be buying any more of the MANSION MEMOIRS if they make those though. Interesting that the same company can make games that are quite close. One I love and replay, one I can't stand.
sunshinej -- I'm sorry you didn't care for LOST IN THE CITY. I bought it based on the reviews (I like noir). Of course i haven't played it yet.

Hey, guess what, fellow Finishers ...
I've got BOGOF codes that work - I've just tried them both ...
ABE for CEs
GEORGE for SES
I'm wondering if these are codes for this weekend. They were added to RetailMeNot yesterday but with no expiry date. But isn't it George Washington's birthday not this Monday but the following Monday?
