I'm just getting near the end of the second Shiver game but, after managing to finally get my hysterical laughing under control, I just had to stop for a second and let you know what had made me laugh so hard.
I was trying to use an inventory item but it was the wrong one - it said I needed something to light the cartridge that I'd just put in the lock to open the gate. As the only thing that would light anything in my inventory, I tried using a lighter. It was obviously wrong as the comment was something like: "Um, no. That's how my best friend lost a finger."
Now that was original!

I have decided to play through my back log of unplayed Nancy Drew games before the newest one comes out. Currently playing Alibi in Ashes. It is an okay game but you have to switch between playing different characters and it makes it kind of tedious. Definitely not my favorite game of the series.

Meg -- Hope you get the apt!
As far as me getting any backlog played....wouldn't you know it. Just when I was all ready to start playing games one of my F2P games had a HUGE update.

Lily, ain't that always the way?
Thank heavens I never got into FTP; they just take up too much of your time and I'd never get to move any of my games from my To Play list (which just seems to be getting longer and longer) over to my Played list.
Have fun playing your newly updated FTP game!

Miss, I've never been a great fan of the Nancy Drew games, although I loved the books when I was little. I own a few of them, have played 2, neither of which impressed me terribly much, and have demoed a few of the early ones, all of which gave me the irrits. I know they're hugely popular and I know heaps of people who love them, but they're just not for me.
Thank heavens GH has a whole heap of them. I keep on meaning to try some of those I haven't already but my loooooooooooooooooooong list of bought, unplayed games that I really, really, really want to play keeps me more than fully occupied.

One of my then moments ...
I'm playing the bonus chapter of the second Shiver game - Shiver: The Poltergeist. I didn't realise that they had Plus items all the way back then, even though they weren't called Plus items then. Anyway, I had a puzzle in my inventory that was missing some pieces. So, I found 2 and tried playing the puzzle - you have to put arrows in so that the ship moves over the ocean, picking up treasure chests on its way to shore. No matter what I tried I just couldn't get it to work and my ship kept on sinking. I finally gave up last night and went to bed, thinking I'd think a bit clearer after some sleep.
So, I got up this morning and started working on it again. I had it all worked out but I was missing a left arrow and just couldn't see any other way to do it and kept on .
I finally gave in and looked at the SG, only to find that it had 3 left arrows!!!! All that time I'd spent trying to do that stupid puzzle only to find that I'd been missing a piece all along! Thanks, Developers, for allowing me to play the puzzle without having all the pieces! I've never had that happen to me before.
What I also don't like about the first 2 Shiver games is that the story ends at the end of the main game, then has a cutscene with a cliffhanger that can only be solved when you play the bonus chapter in the CE. I don't like it when you only get the full story if you buy the CE. The only way to find out who did it in the 2nd Shiver game is to play the bonus! Without that ending cutscene you'd be none the wiser if you got the SE.
And boy, were the CEs sparse in extra content back then! The 2nd Shiver game only has a bonus chapter, SG, wallpapers and concept art! Looking back now I wonder why I ever got the CEs, regardless of the fact that I only ever got them during sales.
And I agree with so many reviewers ... the first one is definitely the best (so far). It had incredible atmosphere with great sound effects. The second game's good but the story isn't nearly as gripping and the atmosphere is lacking somewhat. I loved the first one but now I'm just trying to finish the second to get on to the third, which is supposed to be the weakest of the 3. At least I only got the SE for that one...

Oscar...I started Drawn: The Painted Tower last night. I think you're right, this will be a treat. I played up to the tree that was not getting enough water. A different kind of game, but actually it is really pretty neat. I got a kick out of the witch doctor, he turned around and I was like whoa, you have no clothes on.
misscat...I started Alibi in Ashes some time ago and didn't much care for it either. I won't get any of the newest ones until I get that one finished.
stusue...I know what you mean about how the first two Shiver games ends and then there is that little bit extra that would leave you hanging if you got the SE. Fortunately, I had the CE's for both of them.
I deleted my Game Manager and reinstalled it. Everything came back, but it still didn't solve my problem of updating games. It used to show me which games had a update and now it doesn't. I deleted the Awakening Kingdoms game and was going to reinstall it, but I think I will just let it stay deleted.

I've just finished the bonus in the second Shiver game, Shiver 2: The Poltergeist CE and I have a few more observations.
I forgot to mention that you can also replay all the curscenes in the CE extras. I watched them, including my fav, which is where all the cutlery lifts off the table and hurtles towards you. You duck down behind a chair and knives come through the back of the chair but, fortunately, can't make it all the way through to get you. Great action and great tension! I then watched the one that ends the main game and realised that the first half ends the main game - you see the 2 dead lovers reunited, which was your goal in the main game - and then the second half leads into the bonus chapter. So, it's possible that if you got the SE you only see the first half of the ending cutscene, seeing the lovers reunited, and you only see the second half of that cutscene in the CE. It could also be the same for the first game in the series.
So, now on to the 3rd game, Shiver 3: Moonlit Grove!
Oh, and I also finished Twilight City: Love as a Cure this morning (loved it), so that makes 3 completed games already this month, and it's only the 4th! 4 games in 4 days if I finish Moonlit Grove today!

Did you know that there are sequels to City of Fools and Green Moon in the works? I've read the synopses and seen some screenshots but no idea when they'll be released. Anyone have any idea????
