I have Sinister City. It came on a cd with 2 other games. Ghost Whisperer and Immortal Lovers. I have played Ghost Whisperer, but not the other 2. At least I know what Sinister City is all about now. Thanks for the review freyasmom.
I have the first Hidden Object Crosswords. I just replay that one instead of buying the second one which looks like it needs some fixin.
I have Ghost Whisperer too! Great minds think alike .... and all that. Immortal Lovers sounds familiar but I don't think I've played it yet if I DO own it. Also have first Hidden Object Crosswords. I can remember EXACTLY what was going on when I purchased it. Wow. Talk about a freaky deaky way out there in universe coincidence of spookiness!

Happy Empire
The storyline was nice. Empress has a happy valley/kingdom, goes away and the evil no-goodnik comes in and .... UNhappy kingdom. Empress needs to rebuild.
Graphics were fine. Music very cute and suitable to time period, etc. Sound effects were good as well.
This isn't a time management game as you can change it to "relaxed" which is untimed and which I liked very much.
What I didn't like is that there were NO instructions or tutorial of any kind .... unless I slept through it (and I've been known to sleep through a demo a time or two) and I am pretty sure I didn't. The challenges were not that difficult ... once you figured out what to do .... but the demo lasted only 30 minutes. I don't think I've EVER played a build-it demo that actually ended .... much less with time left over.
This is just not a buy for me nor can I in good conscience recommend it to anyone else. This game has a LOT of potential but needs a LOT of work.
Too bad.

Graven: The Purple Moon
The storyline is pretty good, although it's telling could have been shortened. Basically, there is an ancient prophecy that once the comet has barred certain things from visibility (I think), and the moon turns purple, an ancient evil will be unleashed! Your character is a famed archeologist who gets a mysterious letter which sets YOU on the path to ..... save the world. Of course! What else would your character have to do - lol.
The graphics are not detailed very well. I'd almost say this was an older game. The music is creepy. The characters are ... creepy. The locations are .... creepy. This is a VERY dark and creepy game.
There are 3 modes of difficulty - casual to hard. If you can, I would adjust the brightness of your computer. It's not an option in "options" or "settings" but I would definitely recommend it. This is truly a DARK game.. For instance, I spent a LOT of time in the dark .... and in dark caves .... in the dark.
There is a map, transportable, but with no legends and no indications of what the areas are ... nothing is marked. There is a journal that holds clues and notes.
There are HOGs (I think) and they are varied by silhouette, find the pieces, etc. There are mini games. Most required patience. None were difficult (and I'm not always the brightest at mini games) but the instructions were .... limited.
There are Achievements and Collectibles. The Collectibles are none to easy to locate. 40 mosaic pieces and 70 pieces of mistletoe (which recharges your "hint" button).
This game has TONS of mystery. I had SCORES of questions that really didn't get answered during the demo. Why is everything so "dark"? I don't think the story required it. It's definitely not "mood" lighting. That the prophecy will begin in 7 hours is mentioned at the beginning of the game ..... then 6 hours (near the end of the demo hour). Does this allude to the possible length of the game? And what happens if you DON'T finish the game in the alluded 7 hours???? Do we have to start over?
How is your character intertwined in this prophecy? Why are we collecting mistletoe? This game CERTAINLY has no air of holly, jolly Christmas and old St. Nick about it. Do these things make it more ..... appealing? Don't know. There is ABSOLUTELY NO HAND HOLDING in this game and the hint button was used often.
Dark, creepy, no real instructions, no sense of direction . Yet, when the demo ended (and it ended because the time was up and NOT because it was the end of the demo - YAY) I wanted ..... MORE. More time to work out what I was supposed to be doing and why.
I would definitely NOT recommend this for beginners since there is such a lack of ..... everything useful. I played on "casual" and had a difficult time. Experts would probably LOVE this game.
Lots of "dark". Caves. A lighthouse. Collectibles and a Prophecy. Is this enough for me to purchase the game? The lack of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING useful certainly is. I just don't know what I'm going to do at this point. And really? Mistletoe????
For those who HAVE decided ..... Good Luck and
ENJOY!
To be perfectly frank ..... after reading the reviews on the BFG Forum, I was hesitant to even post mine, as it seemed so far "out of the box" than everyone else's. I just didn't get why everyone but me is so enamored of this game. OR, ARE they? Were they just "putting on airs" because the DEVS of the game were posting cutesy responses to their positive feedback?

I like your summing up on the story for Graven: The Purple Moon. When in the demo they mentioned demons I just zoned out and didn't get the gist of what the story was about.
I liked how the guy in the bar threw me out because I was rooting around in his stuff.
I think when the devs are in the forums, people speak nicer than when they are not there. Except for a few who complained about large cursors. Is that really such a deal breaker on whether to get a game or not?

Awww, thank you so much, Being caught in the bar without permission sort of went "over my head". And the absolutely HUMONGOUS (sp?) cursor was definitely not a deal breaker for me .... although collecting mistletoe in such a dark and dreary and NON-Christmasy game? THAT could definitely be a deal breaker for me!
Thanks for reading, sunshine!

Jingle Ball
Absolutely the BEST themed brick breaking game EVER!!! Gold coins raining down! Extra lives in the form of HUGE hearts (even I missed those - lol), multiple balls, fast balls, s ... l .....o ...... w balls - lol! Balls that did EVERYTHING!! But the best balls were those that broke through ice and got us a gift ---- the inside of which was always a surprise!!!
Unfortunately, there were also things I disliked about the game, which made it a definite non-purchase for me. There was no way to adjust the sound of the music in "options". It was either "on" or "off". Even turning down the volume on my computer had no effect. The volume stayed exactly where it was weird - too loud!
As much as I loved the upbeat Christmas music (and sang along sometimes) the inability to change the volume was a definite deal breaker for me). Too bad because it was definitely an awesome game!I would recommend this for anyone who doesn't mind loud music - lol ..... difficulty levels notwithstanding! It's reminiscent of a good snowball fight!
ENJOY!

Laby (a match 3 game)
I LOVE a good match 3 game and own several as my "go-to" games when I need a leisurely day of gaming. This game missed the mark ..... by a LOT!
The storyline, which took forever and a DAY to tell, is basic. Help the wizard complete his spell/potion/magic/whatever to create .... the Philosopher's Stone! End of story but it took pages and pages and pages of reading to tell.
The graphics are good. The music ok. Sound fx nothing remarkable. This is a timed game ... no option to play "relaxed" but you don't need to ..... because the level doesn't end until you fill up the "bar". You cannot lose.
You get bombs (of a sort) for making matches of 4 or more. These will blow up a row either vertically or horizontally (I couldn't figure out how it chose which direction to destroy). That's the game ... in a nutshell. Boring.
The storyline never goes anywhere. There are no mini games or hidden object games or anything to break up the monotony of this game. And, believe me, it is monotonous.
This would be great for beginners. This is definitely NOT a purchase for me. There are TONS of more entertaining match 3 games on the BFG site. I would recommend trying a few others out before committing to wasting time on this one.
But, if you do enjoy the demo and choose to purchase it for yourself .... well ....
ENJOY!

Gizmos Spirit of the Christmas
I wanted to say something nice about this game .... given it's a Christmas season game .... but, sadly, I could not.
The storyline made no sense to me. As a standalone game, it wouldn't work if you were dependent on knowing the story because it alludes to previous games in this series (i.e., Halloween) thereby leaving players like me ... in the dark. And, it never progressed during the demo at all.
The graphics were horrible. The game board was so small it was extremely difficult to see which blocks were filled and which weren't. Perhaps the use of some color would have helped ..... immensely. Especially since it IS a seasonal game ... maybe reds and greens???? There were also soooo many pictures (also indiscernible) of skiers I began to wonder if there were any OTHER pictures to build. The music started out quite nice and then became equally ... un-holiday-ish. Very disappointing.
The gist of the game is to make a picture on a graph of squares using numbers as clues. As a tutorial, I wouldn't even recommend it for beginners to this genre because I know for a fact there is a better tutorial game on the BFG site.
In order to get a "perfect" rating, you must NOT have any misclicks, use NO hints, and beat the "perfect time", which is virtually impossible. I like to take my time playing this type of game as it sometimes takes a bit of thought.
There was just nothing about this game that was entertaining or fun or relaxing or reminiscent of the holidays. For these reasons, it will not be a purchase for me. I've played 2 other Gizmo games, purchased 1 and am on the fence about the other. It was really a disappointment.
Merry Christmas!
I would HIGHLY recommend GEMSWEEPER, especially as a "beginner" or a "tutorial" type game. LOVED it!

Les Miserables: Cosette's Fate
FYI: This game is TRES MISERABLES! This is easily the worst game of the year.
Grainy graphics. Music so loud I couldn't even turn it down on my computer and no way to adjust it in "options". Moving mouths but NO VOICE OVERS! I thought I was going DEAF!
I couldn't even finish the demo and that's why no "game play" description. I did go to the BFG Forum and check out if this experience was just me ... but nope ..... this is everyone's experience so I didn't feel it necessary to continue trying to play it. I have NEVER NOT (yes, teacher, a double negative) finished a demo in my life. Couldn't finish this one.
There are SO MANY great games out this Christmas season. Don't even waste your time downloading the demo.
Obviously NOT a purchase for me. Obviously NOT recommending this for anyone.

New Yankee in Santa's Service
Somehow, through SOME means, 2 characters were off fighting a war when one "spelled" them home. Except, the spell landed them in the North Pole and frightened off the reindeer. Santa doesn't know what to do. Now, these 2 characters are enlisting the aid of the elves to build???? Build ... what exactly? Why? The reindeer have been frightened away ... THAT'S the issue.
The graphics were okay, although somewhat small. The music was not Christmasy at all. The sound effects were good.
The gist of this game is as any other "build-it" game. You cut down trees, gather crops, build windmills, houses, mine gold and send Santa to fight off snarly polar bears (who are supposed to be tame) and a Medusa looking female who I think freezes the elves.
The elves start off very few ... 2 ... to do a TON of work. Later, you have a MAZE to go through of doing all the things mentioned above, rescuing elves in the process, who then help you ... in that level. There is a CONSTANT litany of things to do and not enough elves to do it. I never see the 2 original characters other than having useless conversations between levels.
Not to mention, THIS North Pole is the UNhappiest place I've ever seen! Santa is angry, the elves are angry, the reindeer are angry ... EVERYONE is angry!
It's CHRISTMAS! It's SANTA! It's ELVES and the NORTH POLE! There should be SMILES and a RELAXED UNTIMED option (since getting a gold cup is impossible).
This is definitely not a purchase for me, nor will I recommend it for anyone ..... except the GRINCH! Or Scrooge!
Merry Christmas.
