Re: Demo Reviews

It is a pretty weird review, Lily.  Me thinks she took her pills

I'm confused.  In your review of SURFACE: GAME OF GODS you keep talking about FEAR FOR SALE games.  Are these by the same DEV?  Did you mis-label the review?

Dang.  I have WHISPA FOREST.

Absolutely, positively a definite possibility.  I'm on drugs (for my back - not "on" drugs) and haven't slept in 3 days.    Plus, it was in the middle of the night (whatever THAT has to do with anything).   I'll go back and fix it.

Thank you sooooo very much for pointing that stupid "oops" out to me.  Dang.  Here I thought I NEVER made mistakes.

Actually, wendydarling and lilyr, just trying to keep you on your toes.   Nah.  THAT excuse won't work now that I've admitted my mistake.

But, you ARE reading them!!!  YAY!

Re: Demo Reviews

Okay.  Gone over the reviews.  EVEN replayed the betas of both games (as the demos are timed out) to make sure I was at least DESCRIBING the RIGHT game - wouldn't THAT have been a big "OOPSIE"?

I am happy to report that the ONLY error in the "Surface" review was the constant mention of "FFS" rather than "Surface".  Everywhere "FFS" was mentioned, it should have been "Surface" as THAT'S the game I was referring to and what the comments were referring to.

Perhaps, I should until I'm off the drugs and get some sleep???  Which is rather an odd thing to say, since the drugs make me sleep all day.    At night?    Not so much.  Tonight, however, I AM medicating at bed time - since I  OVERDID it today   - between naps.  Laundry (ok - it WAS only 1 load) ,  walked Freya twice (short - ish walks)  and tripped on a blanket on the floor .     Tonight I .

Sooooo sorry for the stupid mix-up.  Sigh.          Sigh.           Sigh.              OOPS FELL ASLEEP!

Re: Demo Reviews

This game is a featured "Tomorrow's Game Today" at BFG.

The Far Kingdoms:  Elements

While the Princess is away, the rats will play.   Morgana is back and wreaking havoc on Princess Ariana's kingdom, turning everything and everyone into ..... stone.  Now, it's up to you to help the Princess restore her kingdom and deal with the evil Morgana ..... again.

The graphics are good.  There are no voice overs so everything has to be read.  Really?  In this day and age?  Tsk tsk tsk.

There are 3 levels of difficulty.  I chose "casual" so I can get an idea of what's offered for beginners.  There is an optional tutorial, which is very nicely done and a journal which contains useful story line and game play information. Our friend, "frog" the hint button is back as is Corvus, the white dove, who has delivered the Princess' magic amulet.  The magic amulet can be used to make fire and burn things.  YAY!

This is a combination match 3 and HOG (hidden object game).  The match 3 part of the game is fun and fairly standard in game play.  My level of difficult was not timed.  That's NOT saying it was easy either - because some of the levels, even early on, were difficult to pass.  The HOGs are fun, itemized list types.  Sometimes, the items can be difficult to find. Sometimes, you are offered an alternative game to play - but only sometimes.  Hmmmm.

I love the characters you meet along the way.  I love the continuing story line.  I love the balance of story, match 3s and HOGs.  Well, I guess I LOVE this latest in the Far Kingdom series.   This is a great game for beginners and experts alike.  Not for the difficulty challenge but for the story and fun game play.  It has true entertainment value and is a definite purchase for me.

Come along and join me in helping "frog", Corvus and Princess Ariana restore the Kingdom.

ENJOY!

Re: Demo Reviews

Farm Mania

This game is definitely MANIA at FULL SPEED!

The graphics are great, except I couldn't tell the difference between the eggs and wool in the beginning - DOH!   The music is upbeat and fun - keeps you working, that's for sure.   The sound effects? Absolutely AMAZING! Clucking, mooing, cawing, water, everything all at once!

Thank Goodness there are 2 difficulty modes. Regular which is timed - OH NO, NOT FOR ME! And relaxed, which NOT timed - big breath - thank you.

The gist of the game is to help Grandpa with his rundown farm. And it's not as simple as having a yard sale. Oh no. YOU are going to become a real farmer!

The beginning levels are tutorials where you learn to get Grandpa moving getting corn and hay (or whatever sheep eat) and water ready for your pickup. Then, you rush around feeding, watering, planting seeds, sowing, harvesting, shearing, collecting eggs, taking cornmeal to Grandma to bake bread, collecting everything to send to town to sell! Whew!  There is NEVER a moment to stop to breathe.

There IS a tally board at the bottom of the screen that shows your progress. Wish I had noticed THAT earlier in the game because I was hauling my little you-know-what off - but made extra money so I guess that was a good thing.  I just felt run ragged by the end of the demo - lol.

This is not necessarily a game of strategy OR time management since there is an untimed difficulty. It's more using your resources wisely.   Which, I'm afraid, I probably didn't. I was running to and fro and everything. Even though all you needed was chicken eggs and bread, the sheep still wanted food and water and shearing so what do you?  Keep at it with all the other things you HAVE to do or leave them be????

This game was toooooo busy for me. I'm old and I need stress-free, relaxing games - lol. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners either, unless they are super magnificent at time management games - smile.Go ahead, give it a try. Grandpa would love the help and you may enjoy farming .... for an hour.

 ENJOY!

Re: Demo Reviews

Veronica and the Book of Dreams

I'm not really sure where the story line was going. Maybe if I had purchased the game and seen it through to the end, I would have "gotten" it. Oh well.

The graphics were ok ... definitely not amazing. The music was odd. The sound effects were ghostly "aahhs" and what seemed like the sound of "pops" or "punches". Definitely disconcerting to me.

You earn coins by successfully passing levels, which you STOP doing by level 8. Trust me on this. Up through level 5, things are pretty simple. You use the coins in the "shop" to purchase bonuses of every kind and description.Veronica's story continues page by page in her "Book of Dreams" or "Nightmares". I don't know what the difference between the two is but when I chose not to replay a level in "Dreams" I went straight to level 77 in "Nightmares". Nope. Didn't pass it so back to Level 8 in Dreams I went.

The very worst part of this game and why it's not a purchase for me, is there really is NO instruction after the initial tiny bit.   You start a level and don't really know if you're bringing gems to the bottom and are you supposed to continue destroying monsters and zombies at the same time???   And other levels you don't pass, but you don't know why because all the tiles are broken, every gem gone through the bottom of the game board and every monster killed.   Fingers fairly ached from the effort. But, no dice, you still don't pass the level ... and no idea why not.

This is a fast paced, great Halloween-themed game not recommended for beginners. If you are "in the know" about match 3 games you MIGHT "get" this one. I sure didn't.

Give it a try...but for me it isn't a buy.

 ENJOY!

Re: Demo Reviews

Bengal, Game of Gods

I have to admit I have to be in the right frame of mind to play one of these ball-breaking games. Tonight, I was in that frame of mind but the game disappointed me greatly.

The graphics were only passable. My "feline friend" who was the ball shooter looked so much like Chester the Cheetah from Cheese Puffs I was easily distracted. But, then, maybe that was the point. The music wasn't even "twangy" but more "twingy". The sound effects were annoying, especially Chester's.

The gist of the game is the same old-same old. Shoot a colored ball into a running conveyor belt of multi-colored balls to make a match of 3 or more to destroy them.  Get bonuses. In this game there is a golden monkey that pops up and if you shoot it, you get extra .... something or other.

As I leveled up and no challenge was forthcoming, I was afraid I wouldn't last to the end of the demo and I really dislike NOT finishing a demo. It doesn't seem right to post a review on an unfinished oneWell, my thoughts anyway. In any case, by level 10 I said to myself: Self, if we make it to level 15 with no challenge, we quit. Level 15 came and went and still no challenge. So, here it was, the final self-ultimatum. I would go to level 20 or 100,000 points and if there was STILL no challenge, I'd just quit. At level 20 and with 16 lives and over 100,000 points and STILL no challenge, I quit. Fortunately, there were only 12 minutes remaining so I felt I could give a fair review.

At times, I wondered if the goal of the game was NOT to keep your line of moving balls from getting .... somewhere bad that would make you lose the level, but to shoot as many gold monkeys as you could. I never saw anything threatening my moving line of balls.

This would be a great game for a beginner into this genre of game play. I didn't see a place to enter my profile name. There were no choices of Quest, Adventure, Timed or anything else. It was just a straightforward game. Very relaxing ..... going w-a-y beyond relaxing to boredom for me, personally. Definitely not a purchase for me.

I'll recommend the game only because I'd like you to try the ONE thing I liked about the game. In some levels, the moving line of balls would shift ... that was pretty cool.

 ENJOY!

In a nutshell:  Boring.  Went way beyond relaxing to putting me to sleep.  Over 16 levels, 16 lives and over 100,000 points and was never challenged.  Not a purchase for me.

Re: Demo Reviews

Sprill:  The Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle

The story line is kind of "hokey", but this IS Sprill, after all. Sprill was relaxing on his boat when, suddenly, he became dizzy and woke up at the bottom of the ocean, able to breathe. Aliens informed him, among the miasma of planes, boats and ships, that they have been looking forever and a day for the Great Pearl. THEY were the ones responsible for all the Bermuda Triangle disappearances. If someone helped them, they were sent back to the top. If not, well, they were stuck at the bottom of the ocean forever. OH NO!

The graphics are ok. There are a LOT of items in each location which are somewhat tiny. The music was fine. The sound effects ok. The noise made each time you found something or clicked on the wrong item was annoying.

There were no bonus levels that I could tell. If you found a ? in the location, you got an extra hint. You could have anywhere from 1 - 5 hints in each location. I hadn't figured out how that was calculated when the demo ended.

This is an HOG game (hidden object game) and nothing more. You go to locations (repeatedly and even more repeatedly) and look for a list of 10 items. Can't find something? Use one of those elusive hints. I kept going among 3 locations for the entire hour of the demo and there were plenty of other places to go.

I've played one other Sprill game on BFG (in fact, I own it) and it was entertaining, delightful and extremely LONG. I would venture to guess this also has some length but is not as much fun. I like a good HOG, but I want mine to be broken up with a mini game or something periodically. The story line never went anywhere.

This would be good for any level of expertise. Be patient. The items can be difficult to find. And, if you're not about strictly finding objects, this game won't be fun for you.

So, do your best and find that great pearl so Sprill can get back to the surface!

 ENJOY!

Re: Demo Reviews

Freyasmom, you're fun to have around, I'll give you that  Laughed my way through all the reviews
I haven't played any of "The Far Kingdoms", maybe I'll have to check them out.  I just got a Funpass from Gamehouse last month so I'm trying to play stuff from them instead of my already owned stuff.
Okay, just checked with GH.  They have The Far Kingdoms and also F.K. Winter Solitaire, so I'll get those downloaded.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.

Re: Demo Reviews

I remembering liking THE FAR KINGDOMS a lot.  I'll definitely be demo'ing ELEMENTS.  I was surprised to see the review of THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE.  It's quite an old game.  I got stuck at one place , CS couldn't get me out and I got a coupon for it.
