Thanks so much for your kind words, guys!    I'm feeling a tad better today and I'm going to see if I'm up to playing a HOPA.  Today's soft release was also released by GameHouse today so I'm going to see if I can play that.  If so, a review will hopefully magically appear later!

Glad you are feeling better stusue.   I thought today's soft release looked interesting too.  Will be waiting for magically appearing review when you feel up to it. No hurry now.

Oh stusue...I forgot to say that I bought today's daily deal The Order of the Rose.  I remember last year that you said it was really good and been waiting for it to come as a DD which is today.  lol

Stuesue, haha,  yesterday I bought  A New Beginning- Final Cut. It was only $1.99 so I couldn´t resist . The reason why I bought BS 5 (earlier I had decided to wait until under  $10) was because my daughter and I are playing BS 4 now, and I miss Nico...
I also have put some more games on my wishlist. I hope the sale ends soon

Anki, I also already have A New Beginning - A Final Cut but I got it from GamersGate, not from GOG.  And no wonder you got BS5 if you and your daughter are currently playing 4!  I would have done the same, and it was 50% off.  The problem is, I don't really like the series.  If I remember correctly, I didn't mind 1 but got bored with 2.  Or maybe it was the other way around.    I played them both awhile ago.

But I did add Deponia 3: Goodbye Deponia to my collection.  It's in the Summer Sale but it was more than I was willing to pay - I think maybe $6 or $8.  Well, it's also in one of the bundle sales - the 3 Deponia games together.  And it's only $3.99 in the bundle as I've already got the first 2 at GOG!  So, of course, I got it straight away and was SO happy I'd waited!

I also caved yesterday and got NCIS from GG.  It's been on my wishlist for ages and it was 75% off.  And it was less then a meal out...  Well, that's how I justified going over my normal limit for adventure games.

Sunshine, yesterday I managed to finish Panopticon - Path of Reflections by Alawar and Cyber Cradle.  The only thing I could find out about Cyber Cradle is that it's located in Belarus - that's the only thing on their website and I assume that's the correct company - so I don't know if this is their first game or not.  If so, it's a fantastic first attempt!    I really liked the graphics and loved the animations.  I found them really smooth, whereas one BFG reviewer found them jerky.    You go to 5 different worlds through a machine and each one is different, which was interesting.   However, it's very straightforward, linear and easy.

My rating is - I liked it but it's nothing special.  The reason why I thought it was nothing special is that I didn't find it very exciting and the HOSs and puzzles were mostly very easy.  The HOSs are all straight lists, but most have a couple of very easy interactions.  The puzzles were all very easy except a few at the end, which required a bit more thought.  The instructions for the puzzles, however, left a lot to be desired and some of the puzzles were trial and error, working out what on earth you were supposed to do!    I ended up skipping 3 - one because it was simply taking too long - one because no matter what I did it wouldn't work and, when I skipped it, I'm sure that the answer was one I'd tried - and one because I simply couldn't work out what you had to do and nothing seemed to work.  None of the puzzles have a Reset button so that made it harder.  But, apart from those 3, the puzzles are super easy, like placing gears in the correct place, but there were only 3 gears !!!! and they went in an almost straight line.

This is one of those games that make me really glad I have a FunPass - games I want to play but don't want to buy, even with a PCC.  It's not bad for a straight SE but I'd only recommend it if you like the demo, because it is a good game, just not - in my sick state - very exciting, and it is very easy.  It would also be a good choice if you have an expiring PCC and no other games.  Try the demo and, if you like it, then use a PCC, as my impression of the game might have been coloured by the fact that I felt like crap when I played it.    I'll see if I can find my magic wand to wave around and have a review magically appear later today.

As for Order of the Rose, I'm glad you can remember what I thought about games.    Once I've finished a game I completely forget about it, apart from the few games that I really loved, of course.    Even looking at the 3 screenshots on the main game page only one triggered a memory - the puzzle.

Anki, I've just added another game to my collection at GOG!!!!    Journey of a Roach  It's a game about 2 cockroaches.  LOL.  Well, it's by Daedalic and it was 85% off!  And it got great reviews!  How could I resist?

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

stusue...Thanks for the insight into Panopticon: Path of Reflections.  I like the idea of going to 5 different worlds and all of them being different.  The puzzles do sound very easy in it.

I think we all wish it was so easy to write a review.  A couple of swishes with magic wand and voila the review is all written up for you.    No seriously I know what hard work you do in writing up your reviews so a big THANK YOU from me.

Speaking of puzzles I came across one in Stranded Dreamscapes: The Prisoner.  They're 4 bird buttons on bottom and 4 tree buttons on top and you must swap them so the 4 birds are on top and the 4 trees are on the bottom using lines that just go to 1 or 2 spots in 19 moves.  I thought I had it, but it would have taken 20 moves and after 19 the puzzle resets itself.  Now if only I could remember how I did that so maybe I can finally beat it.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Sunshine, thanks so much!    Good luck with your puzzle!

Unfortunately, I'm not quite up to typing any reviews today.  However, I thought you may like my thoughts on today's CE, Sea of Lies: Nemesis.

I first make note of everything like the options, achievements, modes, collectibles, SG, etc. before I start the game.  I also make note of all the extras.  For this game, as I was writing down all the extras and the achievements, as well as what was in the custom mode, I was ready to add it to my CE list.    Then I started playing the game.

Oh, my, what a disappointment!    To say I hate the graphics may be a bit strong but boy do I not like them.    I only played the first 3 scenes but everything is sick yellow and purple.  But that wasn't the problem.  The best I way I can come up with to describe it is that nothing is well defined.  It seems 2D with everything just blending into the next so I didn't like looking for anything in the scenes.

Then came the first HOP.  It's really interesting with, I think, 3 scenes, with some interactive list items, some silhouette objects, with little mini-puzzles in zoom-in areas that might only have a few items.  However, it was so easy.  No challenge whatsoever.  The alternative M3 was also super easy with a small board.

The one puzzle I played did offer some sort of challenge, however, especially as the instructions weren't all that clear and it took a bit of trial and error to work out the details.   But it only took 3 or 4 moves and it was over!

I'd chosen to have no helpful hints in Custom Mode but, at first, I still got some, although they were less helpful than otherwise.  However, then they turned into one of 3 options:  "What could I possibly use here?" or "Let me see..." or "Think, think, think!"  I hate it when games do that.  Please, just leave the BBTs blank.  That was the last straw for me and I stopped playing.

You have to keep in mind, though, that I'm still as sick as a dog so that might have influenced my opinion.  However, I was so excited about the game when I started playing, being that it was an Eipix game and that there seemed to be so many great extras.    Then the letdown.

I'll try it again tomorrow and see if I change my opinion.  If I don't, unless I read some really great reviews about how fantastic the story is and what an amazing bonus chapter, this may be one Eipix game I don't even get as an SE.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I started Nightmare Adventures The Turning of the Thorn yesterday.  It is a more involved game and the puzzles involve a little more thinking and solving.  It is an adventure game so there is alot of exploring.  The diary gives a nicely fleshed out story and info, and at the beginning it does give a little overview and refresher of Witches Prison, the first game.  The camera is very handy as it records and keeps things you need, handily deleting them when you are done with them. A nice change of pace.   The graphics are somewhat murky just because of the colour palette.  At this point I recommend it.

Anki and stusue, been noticing all these games you're getting from GOG and I'm wondering, are these mostly adventure games you all are getting.  I registered with GOG a few years ago and did get Myst, Riven, The Longest Journey, Sanitarium and some freebies but only dabbled in Myst and was totally confused.  Not very good at adventure games so been hesitant to buy any on the sale.  stusue, I admire your ability to write the reviews as it would surely give me a headache to spend the time you do to write such detailed reviews; can't imagine trying to do it if I wasn't feeling well.  Hope you get to feeling better soon.

After finishing Cadenza, decided to play Shadow Shelter after remembering you all talking about it.  It was a dark game but must have had something I enjoyed as I finished it in half a day, totally not my norm.  Then I decided to play an oldie, Hidden Mysteries: Gates of Graceland. At least, that's marked off my list ~ not much to recommend it as it was pretty lame, although I did have to resort to hints as it was vague in some ways.  Best part were the video clips and pics of Elvis throughout the game.

Since I loved Madame Fate, decided to restart MCF: Fates Carnival which I played just a little after buying it last November.  It's defintely going to be a slug fest to get through this one as it appears to be a long game after checking the forums.  It seems to be all over the place and as much as I hate to rely on the SG, sometimes I'm finding myself flustered trying to figure out where they're going with this game.  Love the puzzles, as usual and can pretty much get those after some trial and error.  I'm in and out of this one as I'm working on my other forum challenges but I still love it since I feel the bond with the first game I ever played at BFG.   Also been playing Vesuvia, an oldie M3 I recently got as a DD.  Enjoying it as it is a different type of M3 for me; playing it at night when I'm too tired to tackle Fates Carnival.  Haven't quite figured out when to use the bonus items I'm getting, just plugging along on the big, moving boards.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I finished Stranded Dreamscapes: The Prisoner.  I liked it very much.  It had a good story and the VO were excellent.  The Aunt sounded very much like Nancy Drew.  Puzzles were pretty good and I was able to complete them all without skipping any.  This game reminded me of a old favorite Nightfall Mysteries: Asylum Conspiracy. With the SE  you just rescue your niece with the CE you also rescue your sister.  Sister must still  stay where she is since I just had the SE as I didn't think CE was worth extra money.

Teeitup...I tried Myst and was also so confused as what to do.  I found Schizm: Mysterious Journey at a yard sale for 50 cents so picked it up and afterwards read reviews online saying it was Myst like and now think I didn't get such a good deal after all.  I really stink at Myst.

Oscar...The Turning Thorn is such a puzzle heavy game.  I wasn't able to get through it since I had a error and lost all my progress.  Wasn't able to face tackling all those puzzles all over again!  Still enjoyed how the story was going and one day going to play it again.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I've just posted a full review of the completed Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light SE.  If anyone's interested it's in my demo review thread.

I definitely recommend it if you like the demo.  It's not overly long but I had fun and, although it isn't difficult - gameplay, HOSs, puzzles - all 3 offer some challenge.
