Okay, I've been playing this for some time, and am still ambivalent. Just got a parrot and clock for the shop, but really nothing to sell, just some empty shelves I appreciate you guys' tips, like don't do stuff without a quest. I've played the stupid mine over and over, and still haven't found Whoever's cousin. Oh yes; it seems the only way to avoid being outbid at the auction is to buy at the buyout price, but often there isn't one listed, though I always have to list one. The dog is cute, and so eager to help!

Sandhan, there can be a glitch with that mine quest. You have to be in a certain mode to find the person. I took the advice on a forum thread and paid a few gold bars to skip that quest. And the buyout price disappears as soon as someone bids on an item.

sandhan -- I don't think we actually sell stuff from our antique shop, rather from the auctions. The only people who see the buyout price are the person selling the item and the person who makes the first bid. Occasionally I've gotten an item when I upped a bid because, unwittingly, I hit the buyout price. It took m quite a while to find the cousin too. The worst one for me (so far) was the cotton stuffed cutie in the carnival (comes much later--I'm level 30). I felt like I was playing that forever!

sandhan - most times, to win an auction, you have to be watching the countdown and time your bid very carefully. And make your last bid a few coins higher than the previous bid (rather than just one coin) in case somebody else is also bidding at the same second.
Doing the auction is so worth it in terms of achievements (25 gold bars for 100 buyouts, 25 bars for 50 auctions won, 50 bars for 100 auctions won). If the cutthroat nature is distasteful to you, just get the achievements picking up junk that other people don't want for 1-10 coins each.
And you can make big bucks selling. Last night, I saw that people were paying 2,000 for the metal ball smoothness. Checked my inventory. Rats, I don't have one. Did a search, foud one at buyout for 55. Grabbed it, put it up for auction at 1000 starting, 2000 buyout and it was gone in 2 minutes.
Caveat - never, EVER, buy something at an inflated price in the hopes of selling it for even more. Whenever I see people paying ridiculous prices, I'll put the same item up for sale. More often than not, it doesn't sale. But it's worth the effort because sometimes you hit the jackpot.
I just sold a profile photo for 1,000 on buyout. Not as good as the 3,000 I got 2 days ago, but I'll take it. I'll get another one by playing whichever HO scene gives it.
I wish I had kept track of what I bought and sold from teh very beginning, but I started keeping a record about half-way through the achievements, and I'm now 3,500 in the black. That figure doesn't include all the goodies I've recieved from completing collections. (8,900 in coins plus assorted resources).

I really, really wish Boomzap would change the music. I've had Christmas music waaayyy past my tolerance point. An update wouldn' be bad either. I think they are still trying to fix AK first.
Did anyone get their gold bars for the Christmas Achievements? Monika said we would.

I have a different game going on each computer, I think I had downloaded the laptop one but not played it, so it's from before the Christmas update. It's very weird switching between the two of them. I don't mind the snow, but the music is starting to get to me. I also think it's been giving me different quests.
I got the Christmas gold for the collections, but I couldn't fill the very last one so I'm not entitled to the extra 40? I still managed to get the 30 in collections, though.

Well, I had a good weekend with the auctions. Between the money I made there and the money I got playing HO scenes and mini games to replenish my inventory and fill out collections, I had enough to buy that eggplant, buy the fountain, renovate Vincent's painting studio, and I still have 20,000 on hand.
I only have 2 quests, both undoable: the one in Red Mine, and the one for the teapot which is in a locked mini game which needs the toystore upgraded to level 3.

I just had my biggest sale ever. 7,500 buyout for a Victorian Staffordshire Teapot. These people are crazy.
I can't believe I get to play this game for free.

Wow Tirama! Good for you! I don';t play this as much as AK. I only have 2 quests -- buy the thing for the pizzeria (I think mine is a pizza for 40k) and get something from the butterfly enclosure. Only problem is that I'm out of nets because I had to use them for the previous quest! I've bought a few things from the auction. I really should look at the achievements and concentrate on those.

I'm really liking this game. Seems more upbeat that AK. I seemed to get to Level 10 pretty quickly but now I need lots of moola for upgrading the fountain so think it may slow down a little. Like how all the games are different but still fun to me. Haven't done much with the auctions as just trying to do the quests and scenes. Guess I should check it out some ~ we're gonna have to call Tirama and Wendy our auction queens!
