Re: The Chat Lounge

Hi Mila! Nice to see you.  You might want to change your user name from your email addy or you may find you start getting tons of spam.

Thanks Sun, little hiccup, tub wasn't in.  It's on of those inserts with walls etc.  So it should be in today, my contractor is not a happy camper, they'll put it in and then do the tile. So it's obviously not going to be usable so off to my friend's for a shower again tonight.  And it is a great shower at his place, you could fit a dozen people in it, waterfall overhead, very nice.  I do love the colours and the tile.  It's odd, I am not a blue person, I don't think I've ever painted a room blue. I just thought hmm, having a soak in the tub it would be zen like.   I love colour though, only my entry way is neutral.  Rest of my house is yellow, red, purple!

I am currently looking into some reno programs in my area that they have for second unit dwellings for affordable housing.  that may help me finish off and get water to the other building as well as a kitchen and bathroom.  It is a forgivable loan so, I'll have to see how that works,  I beleive the idea is that if you don't sell the property and rent for the 15 years you don't have to repay whatever it was you were loaned up to $25K.  Anything is worth apply for imo.

Re: The Chat Lounge

Hi mila!   Sorry about the computer problems.  I was surprised you put your email address in too.

oscar -- You must have posted the pictures of the missing fixtures right before I hit send.  Will the bathroom still be done before Saturday?  The reno programs may work.  Is there a big demand for rental housing in your area?  Do you think you'd stay at least 5 - 10 years?  Can you do minor repairs?  I know I wouldn't want to be a landlord.

Re: The Chat Lounge

I don't know if I would stay that long, at least 5. but if you still have money owing and you sell, you have to pay everything outstanding, which if I was selling I'd have the money and the value of the property will increase with a second registered dwelling.  No, not just minor, it has no water, no bathroom, no kitchen.  I'm going to do a plan with my contractor, price it up and see where it goes.  And yes lots of demand.  That's part of the reno program you need to keep the rates affordable.  What I could charge would pay my mortgage and taxes. it's all just speculation at this point.  Ah if only I had a money tree!  Being a landlord is fairly unappealing to me as well but needs must.

As for the bathroom, it looks doubtful.  I may have to put off picking up Milo until Monday or Tuesday.  I think it will just be too chaotic.

Re: The Chat Lounge

They had terrible trouble with the tub.  They actually had to cut some studs out.  I kind of like the large doorways!  But they have to repair that now.  Anyway, with the tub not arriving until 3 days after it should have, things have been set back so it probably won't be done until late next week.  I don't want them rushing thru it but they did lose about 3 days working time this week.  I think they'll install the tub and do the tile today so I should be able to use the shower tomorrow. Which will save me trekking out for one.

I was going to put off picking up Milo until mid week, I thought it would be too much chaos, but the breeder said no.  He'd arranged for them all to go today and tomorrow.  He didn't want any left alone.  I think there are 15 in 3 litters.  Then he has 9 more in a younger litter.  Only 2.5 litters are pure  Berners (no papers though). Be a nice payday for him!

Re: The Chat Lounge

Tee, I just love that first picture, it makes me laugh every time I see it.  You should enter it in a contest, it's that good.  I wrote about your son, but then it got too 'oh poor me' by the end of it and I just deleted the whole post, but I have had him in my heart.
Love the tile, Oscar, but the countertop doesn't seem to go with the black and white to me, can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done, it will probably look completely different than what I'm imagining.  Living in an RV my whole adult life, I have no experience with tile, counters, flooring, any of that stuff.
My oldest sister is in pretty bad shape, she had another heart attack, has cancer in her left breast, COPD, bladder problems, a benign tumor in her throat, and I don't know what else.  She just got released from the hospital recently from her heart attack, she's in a nursing home for a month while my niece tries to find her senior housing.  I asked why she didn't live with my niece she came up with all these reasons.  I just looked up housing there on Craigslist and it was really cheap so I'm starting to think about spending my winter there if she holds on long enough, I haven't been back home since 97 when my mom passed.

No matter how much I complain, I'm grateful for all I have.

Re: The Chat Lounge

wendy...I'm sorry to hear your sister is doing so poorly.  It'll be nice for both of you if you spend your winter break there.  I found it interesting that although you have not been there in 18 years that you still consider it home.

oscar...While driving home yesterday, I saw a man walking his dog and the dog was a Bernese Mountain dog.  He had the same exact coloring as your guys.  They are not popular around here, but I was able to recognize him right away.  They do have distinct coloring.

Re: The Chat Lounge

oscar -- When I asked if you could do minor repairs I was thinking more about what could go wrong in a rental unit.  If you hage to pay someone to unclog the toilet or replace a window it gets pretty expensive.  I'm sorry the bathroom is taking so long.  Hope you can use the shower tomorrow.  I guess Milo will be okay as long as he and Tank get along.  Does Tank tend to do the "big broither" thing or just ignore the pups?

wendy -- Sorry about your sister.  Hope you get to spend some time with her after your season is over.  How's the season going so far?  Is it too early to tell?

Re: The Chat Lounge

Lily - I could do minor stuff, unclog a toilet, replace a light switch, probably not a window.  I do live near a retirement community so fortunately there are some reasonable handymen, retirees around.  It is something I'd have to take into consideration. Tank was great with Winston, eventually, first little bit is always boundary setting.  He had a go at him today all snarly.  Like this little bitty thing is gonna hurt him!  Tank is interested in Milo but he does not want Milo to be interested in him.

Wendy, while the countertop is going to go with the current colour of paint, the more I looked at it and spoke to my contractor the more we both agree with you.  I am going to go back
and look at some all black to black, white charcoal mixes instead.  When I went they only gave me three to choose from so he's going to give them a call.    I am sorry to hear about your sisters health it would be nice to spend some of your down time with her in the winter.

Well the tub is in, and plumbed, although not usable as of yet, fortunately I do have someone's I can use.  Monday I believe it will be finishing of drywall and the taper will be by to do her stuff.  One think I don't think I told you was that it seems to have been serendipitous that this is being done.  When the one guy removed the ballast for the light, the lovely fluorescent tubing, it was burning hot and on the other side (ceiling side) it was a liquid pool and had started melting.  They figure a fire might well have been eminent!

Re: The Chat Lounge

Sun they do stand out.  I walk Tank all over and have several routes I take.  When I walk him on the Main Street sidewalk, which I don't do a lot because I have to step off the sidewalk a lot.  He is very very friendly and looks at everyone as a friend but he leans on you and weighs 130 so he can knock you on your ass if you don't expect it. I've had several people ask me if he was Bubba.  Apparently there is a Bubba the Berner in town.

Milo is going over large with my neighbours who have 3 kids, 9,8 and 6.  The middle one, if I let her would carry him around all day.  Everyone wants a cuddle. I have babysitters lined up.  I actually am going to have a neighbour take him Monday 15 th in the evening hopefully as I have a class at 6 and its 3 hrs.  I've left him alone when I walk tank so that's 30-60 mins.  I do hear him crying when we leave but he's asleep when we get back.  Tonight he was crying when I lost him in his crate and left to go have a shower but he'd stopped by the time I'd got to the car perhaps because tank was with him.

Re: The Chat Lounge

oscar -- Congrats on getting Milo home!  So far it sounds like typical (but fairly minor) new puppy stuff.  And since he's not used to being alone at all....

I'm glad you're going to look at different counter tops.  I thought the color and the floor tile wouldn't really go together either.

Yikes!  I'm so glad you are having the bathroom remodeled!  That sure does sound like a fire just waiting to happen!
