Well, at least that one's done and over with. The very ending was cool, and I liked the beginning, it was the whole middle part that bored me to tears. Thank God for an interactive jump map. I plan on starting The Nutcracker tomorrow, I'm sure it will take me two or three days, then if the new Christmas Carol isn't out yet I have an old one I can play.
Wendy, I'm really sorry Witches Legacy was so disappointing. I wonder if I'll find the middle just as boring when I play it.
I just hope you enjoy Nutcracker a whole heap more!
I haven't even had time to demo Christmas Stories: A Christmas Carol yet, let alone decide if I want it as a CE or wait for the SE. But I sure won't be buying anything in this weekend's sale. I've still got my fingers crossed that we get a BOGOF over Christmas. But I'm not holding my breath.

Game Giveaway of the Day's free game today ...
Around the World in 80 Days - Premium Edition ... FREE ... today only
Just make sure you download it and open it to initialise it today.
I've downloaded quite a few free games from them now without a single problem. It's really easy to download and then you get some great FREE games to keep forever (or until you change computers as you can only download games free on the day they're offered, although on as many computers as you want).
ETA: I forgot to add the link.

I've just demoed the TGT - Mysterium: Lake Bliss - and it's a definite CE contender!
Graphics are okay but nothing special and the story is once again looking for someone's fiance (but I found it different and interesting with a supernatural theme), but the music is good. However, a couple of things that I really liked:
- 54 collectibles that you actually have to look for - YAY! - as they're well blended (but not hard to spot)
- the inventory items just pop up and then quickly go into your inventory - you don't have to click to close!
- you need a rake to go through leaves - but because there are prickly things amongst the leaves!
The achievements are also a bit different. There are the usual - finding x objects in x seconds, finishing HOSs and minigames without hints or skipping - however, there are also achievements for finishing each minigame within x minutes, at least one for finishing a HOS in less than 1 minute, completing one of the minigames without moving backwards... Thus achievements must be earned. This one really has to be earned (unless you cheat and use the SG for the minigames and HOSs):
Mysterium Master
Complete the game on Expert Mode (no hints, skips, sparkles, black bar tips), each puzzle completed in less than 5 minutes, no hints used in HOSs.
Even in the middle mode there were often no hints when you zoomed into something. So I imagine that Expert Mode really wouldn't give you much guidance but there's a good SG to help if you get stuck.
The one disappointment, however, was the HOSs. The only interaction is after you've found all the items on the list, when you have to do something to find the item you need. But, for as long as I played, I never had to revisit a HOS, and they must be random lists as what I had to find for one of them wasn't what was shown in the SG.
So, now I just need to know how long the bonus chapter is to work out whether I get the CE or SE.

Not the greatest sale, but maybe next week. I've already downloaded 80 days this morning, I've had it on my wish list forever but something always was above it, so now I have it, and the Platinum version at that. I do tend to like Playrix games, so that's good, too. I'm on their email list but I don't get them everyday, just now and again, but I got todays. I might have to d/l on my laptop, too.
Not a member so I can't d/l Mysterium til tomorrow. I love what you describe about the achievements, I ablolutely loathe when they put in ones that you can't avoid getting (unless you quit the game). Oh, look, an achievement for finishing Chapter One
If you play Witches Legacy on hard, it really didn't have any sparkles, it would be pretty tough.

No new games for me this weekend. But I did get a beta for the next Nightmares from the Deep. I'll finish up Ancient Mosaic today, do the beta, and play some F2P. Maybe demo some CE's just in case Felix gives me a CE BOGO for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

I've had 80 Days on my list of possible punch card fill-in games since the days of the caveman but there have always been heaps of games ahead of it. So now I got it for nothing! I'll have to remember to download it to my laptop tonight.

ROFLMAO. Yes, I agree. I hate it when the achievements are only for things that are just part of the game, when the term "achievements" is a misnomer. This one has one, if I remember corrrectly, for meeting someone, or something like that. However, as it's the only one I can remember, it might not be all that straightforward.
If you play Witches Legacy on hard, it really didn't have any sparkles, it would be pretty tough.
Thanks, Wendy. This is the second game I have to compare to your experience. Unfortunately, I can't remember the other one, when you wanted to know what the alternate ending was. Can you remember which game that was?

Oh, Tirama, I so hope you've been a good girl this year so you get what you want for Christmas!
I've got 2 betas to do for BFG:
Nightwalkers: The Lurker
Through Andrea's Eyes
I'm hoping to find time this weekend to play them.
ETA: Oops! I must have had a brain fade (to put it nicely) as I got one of the games wrong - I added the last game that I've already surveyed instead of the one that I just got.

We need to keep our eyes out on magicindie the makers of Dorian Gray & Nearwood. All of Their upcoming games are all for the ipad.
sunshinej, a quote from their website ...
With a historical background in PC casual adventure games, we have now shifted our development strategy toward the mobile games market.
I've just sent them an email, asking them if they've really stopped making PC games, especially after Nearwood, and letting them know how sad that is if it's true. I'll see what they say should they reply.
Well, I've just heard back from Magicindie and it's really, really sad news (imho).

Hello Sue,
My name is Vladislav and I run the Magicindie company. We are so glad that you and your friends enjoyed Nearwood as we put our soul into this game. I'm sorry to say, but it is true that we are no longer working on hidden object games. The reason for that, you'd be surprised, is because these game don't sell enough to justify invested time and work. As we always commit to highest quality possible, we decided to try our luck in another market and hopefully find more financial success there.
Kind regards,
Vladislav Chetrusca
If they couldn't make a good profit with Nearwood, what hope has any other game, especially those that aren't in the same league as the really top games? How sad is that?
Unfortunately, they've all priced themselves out of the market, with players demanding bigger and better games without being willing to pay a higher price for them.

I just finished Final Cut: Encore CE plus bonus chapter. I must say it is a very good game, and the bonus chapter is also good, very interesting with switching of scenes.
Next up is a SE, Strange Discoveries: Aurora Peak.

I have Final Cut on my wishlist. I just love the feel of that series. I will end up getting the SE of it.
I loved Dorian Grey and Nearwood, it's hard to believe they won't be making any more games for us. I still haven't played the Lonely Hearts one.
I've started The Nutcracker., it sure is pretty. I have their Christmas tree wallpaper up but it only lshows the bottom of the tree, I wish it showed the whole thing. I'm not feeling very Christmassy, though, hubby hates this time of year and misery loves company....
