Re: Awakening Kingdoms- A Steward's Diary - old version

Day 28

Last night, when we were cleaning up the mess I had made the previous day, Captain Greg had looked through all the work orders and picked out 2 he thought should be allowed to go forward now.  I agreed and had given the Peddler the bolgite and obsidian he requested to begin work on replairing the 3rd pedestal in Skycrystal Atrium.  I also approved the expansion of the Fungus Hut.

That meant I should have only 24 left, plus the 1 for the Festival.  However, there were 3 new ones to replace the 2 that had been completed.  I hand them to Captain Greg when he stops by.  The top one on the pile was for expansion of the Fungus Hut.  Again.

He frowns and points out  we just approved expansion yesterday.  How could it need to be expanded again?  Welcome to my world, I tell him.    He offers to lock all the Goblins in the dungeon so they can't find more work for me to do.  I have a better idea.  Put them to work building our house, I tell him.

I'm determined to find those fairy dresses, no matter how long it takes.  And it takes long.  I'm so frustrated by it all and when I get frustrated, I usually do 1 of 3 things:  I fight with somebody, I spend money, or I eat.  Today is an eating day.  I devour countess bowls of stew, numerous crocks of cheese fondue, I even eat a few of those nasty salmon sandwiches and drink several bottles of Blessilda's energy drink.

It takes all day, but I find them.  I've also found quite a bit of Fairy Glass, which Leena had been asking for, and decide to authorize the expansion of Glennwater Springs.  My euphoria regarding the Fairy Dresses results in approval of expansion of the Wingferry as well.

To my amazement, Mira doesn't actually want the dresses, she just wanted me so find them.  Say what?  It took me 2 days to find those dresses, why was I looking for them if nobody needed them?  I rifle through my work orders.  Leena requested some Fairy Dresses, maybe some of those will do.

Leenas accepts the dresses and hands me a request for shoes.  I feel like Alice when she went through the Looking Glass and the Red Queen tells her to run faster and faster.  But when they stop, they are in the same position because to get anywhere, one must run twice as fast.  No matter how hard I try, I cannot get that pile of requests to shrink.  It's taking everything I've got to prevent it from growing.

Speaking of growing, I better check with Fahleed and see how my dress is coming.  I just hope I haven't gained too much weight with all that I've eated today.

At Fahleed's, I spend some time working out patterns while he inspects some fabric that has just arrived.  That doesn't look like dress fabric, it looks more appropriate for curtains.  Fahleed smiles and asks if I see anything I like.  I tell him that providing a home is the man's responsibility here and I'm not allowed to have opinions.  Fahleed winks and asks if I were allowed to choose, which would I pick?  I spend the next half hour picking out fabric for various household items.

Chumblepot, Troglid, Triffledore and Raphael all stop me and ask my opinion about various items, all hypothetical, wink, wink.

Captain Greg is waiting for me at the office.  He asks how my day was.  Marvelous, I tell him.  I found all those dresses.  Avoiding my gaze, he asks if I saw Fahleed, or any of the Goblins.   Yes, I did, I admit.  But the best thing that happened today is I discovered what a wonderful, kind, generous man I'm going to be marrying.

Re: Awakening Kingdoms- A Steward's Diary - old version

Here's the thing.  I don't particularly like romance novels.  Don't read them.  But i can't wait for each installment of the diary!  And the last few have tugged at my heart.   I chuckled when I read "welcome to my world".  I was expecting Captain Greg to come back with some long "no.  you are in my world" speech.   And the last paragraph did me in!  What a marvelous story you've woven Tirama!  Thank you!

I second everything Lily said.  I always sit here with a smile on my face.  I wish you could have the pleasure of reading it like we are.  It's so weird/cool because we're playing the game and you've brought it to life and all the strange requests all seem to make sense now.  Has anyone played an Awakenings game since they started AK?  I did restart one of them, Sunhook Spire, I think, and it was so  neat playing the bought game.  Maybe I'll do that game next.

So I did start it, it's Skyward Castle.  I think I finished it before but I'm not sure.  First thing I did was help my wounded Pegacorn.  Actually, that's the only thing I've done because I had to go check in on the FTPs.

Day 29

The latest request for things for the Yura Festival is waiting for me on my desk.  It's from the Mayor.  He wants musical instruments: 5 Sun Tambourines, 4 Engraved Madolins, and 3 Mystic Gemshorns, to be precise.  I already have all the mandolins needed, and 4 of the tambourines.  Maybe this request will be easier than the fairy dresses, Yura willing.

There's also a request from Leena to expand Glennwater Springs again, another request for help making fairy art, and Fahleed wants to expand his store to keep up with the increase in demand for home furnishings.

Lucky is being difficult.  He's not happy about his festival duds and keeps taking the hat off.  Please, Lucky, soon the festival will be here and then it will be over and you won't have to wear the hat and things will be back to normal.  Lucky squeaks and puts his paw on my ring.  Jealous of Captain Greg, little squabbit?  You shouldn't be.  Captain Greg is a good, kind man who's building us a wonderful new home and maybe if you're a good little squabbit, it will have a vegetable garden with plenty of carrots.  And, no, I can't ask for a vegetable garden, I promised I wouldn't interfere.

A voice behind me asks if I would like a flower garden to go with the vegetable patch I'm not asking for.

Morning, Captain, you're just in time to help me decide if I would be acting out of self interest if I approved Fahleed's request to expand his business. Not at all, he tells me.  Several of his soldiers are also availing themselves of Fahleed's services in furnishing their new homes.  They won't be able to concentrate on their work if they're worried that their carpets won't be finished in time.  Then, in the interest of national security, I agree to approve the request.

Lucky and I head out to tell Fahleed to go ahead with the expansion.  When we arrive, Fahleed has another problem.  The looms have broken.  How much, I ask.  3,500 bolgins.  The kingdom's safety demands that I pay it.

It takes a while, but I finally find a Sun Tambourine at Skyfleet Docks.  I also find enough tiles to play a game or two at the Fungus Hut.  Nothing wrong with taking a little time out for fun, right Lucky?

After leaving the Fungus Hut, I decide to exchange a set of Pendants for some tool boxes, making sure that previously owned Sunstone Pendant is included in the exchange.  I take the toolboxes to the Wingferry and help Seth repair some of the strange looking widgets,  thingamajigs, and doomaflatchies.

Time to search the Treasure Vault.  Make that waste of time to search the Treasure Vault because I find no gemhorns.  The floor is covered with gold coins.  The place is also inhabited by 5 monkeys, a bat, a lizard, a sugar glider, a snake and who knows how many creepy crawlies.  Need to have a talk with Captain Greg about this place, Lucky.  There's more than enough coins in here to pay for everybody's buildings to be expanded, the castle to be repaired, and for Captain Greg and I to honeymoon in Tahiti, provided I can find it on any of the kingdom's maps.

On the way back to the office I stop at Triffledore's and sort out an artifact box.  Better check on Fahleed while we're here and see how the new looms are doing.  Fahleed informs me the new looms are much stronger and heavier than the old ones and should last a long time.  As long as I'm there, I spend some time figuring out some new patterns.

Back at the office, I finally get up the courage to count the work orders.  There's 29, not counting the one for the Yura Festival.  Wonder where Captain Greg is, Lucky.  We still need to talk about grass and he should be informed about what I found in the Treasure Vault.

At some point during the day, somebody had given me another tile for the door inside the Castle.  Might as well deliver the tile and look for Captain Greg at the same time.

I find him sitting on the staircase steps inside the Castle.  He looks tired and unhappy.  Aftfer giving the door tile to the goblin, I sit down bside him.

Want to discuss the grass, I ask.  He shakes his head no.  Want to discuss something else?  Another shake of the head. It's getting dark, we should go home, Lucky.  Captain Greg gets up and says he'll escort me home.  Neither of us say anything the entire walk.

Re: Awakening Kingdoms- A Steward's Diary - old version

Day 30

Men, I inform Lucky, are from Mars.  They don't speak the same language as women, that is, when they can be bothered to speak at all.  Captain Greg has never been a chatterbox.  He prefers to let his actions speak for him, like when he built those shelves.  So what was he trying to say last night?

To the office, Lucky.  The clock is ticking, less than 9 days to the Festival, and yes, you have to wear your hat.

The office is getting very crowded.  I've got the walls covered with charts showing what is needed for various projects.  Captain Greg has added his own charts and maps showing where the mysterious stranger has been sighted, which areas have been approved for villagers to enter, and which areas are still off limits.  My storage cupboard can't hold all the things I've found during my searches, and the excess covers my desk.

It time to expand Town Hall.  I tell the Mayor my decision and ask him to tell the workers that they are to expand my office around my storage cupboard.  Under no circumstance is it to be dismantled, on the contrary, I want additional storage units that look exactly the same.  The Mayor nods and asks me for donations for the Squabbit Hut, General Store, and Glassworks.  I sigh.  How much?  800 bolgins for each?  Done.

Time to search the Treasure Vault.  I search all morning and finally find a Mystic Gemshorn.  Still need 2 more.  Maybe I should try the auction.  There's no gemshorns listed but I do manage to place winning bids on a Faita Conclave Fairy Crest, a Goblin Rune of Alloys, and various other things.

Before returning to the Treasure Vault, I decide to visit the Castle and see if I can find Captain Greg.  I look inside and outside the Castle but there's no sign of my favorite Martian.  There are some soldiers there, but the man in charge is surly and insolent when I ask where I can find the Captain.  I can't help but notice his brutish behavior towards those under his command.

Is that a clue Lucky?  Has this man been causing trouble for Captain Greg?  Is that what is bothering him?  The men certainly don't appear to respect him although they do seem to fear him.  Maybe before we return to the Treasure Vault, we should visit the Faire of Lights and see if the Gaoblin Grapevine has any information.  But first, a quick stop at the office to pick up a Goblin Rune Set to exchange for 10 blueprints.

I decide to visit Troglid first.  It takes me a while to assemble a model.  They're getting more complex and I'm paying more attention to what he's discussing with Triffledore than to the blueprint.  Next I visit Fahleed.  He's very busy with customers so I slip into the back room to work on some patterns straining to hear what's being said in the other room.  Smebody mentions my name and Capatin Greg's.  I cautiously peer out to see who is speaking.  It's the Sunstone Pendant woman.

It's getting late and I want to search the Treasure Vault again.  I slip out the back door.  Before entering the vault, I have a very late lunch of Moonfell Clarity Soup.  I've got to stop eating so much if I don't want to look like a blimp on my wedding day.  My search turns up 1 more gemshorn.

It's getting dark.  Time to go home, Lucky.  We'll search again tomorrow or maybe we'll be able to get the last gemshorn at auction.  No, we're not stopping back at the office.  I need to think about what I've heard before I see Captain Greg.

My favorite Martian, that was good.  And the competition is here, oh, my.

The Martian reference was cute -- but nothing Captain Greg would understand.   When do we find out what the gossip is?
