Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I just finished Nearwood.  What a really really special game.  I enjoyed it immensely and it kept me playing and forgetting everthing.  Those are truly beautiful graphics and I loved every location.  This is a game I will definitely play again.

Next I will play Fearful Tales: Hansel And Gretel CE.

I was surprised and disappointed that NEARWOOD didn't win any of the Casual Games awards.  I don't think it was even nominated.

I agree, lilyr.  I was also surprised at the disappointing reception it got on BFG, where it only got 4.2/5 and lots of 1 and 2 stars, whose scathing reviews said that there was way too much dialogue and too many cutscenes (really?), way too many puzzles and hardly HOSs (really?), and the jump map was stupid and you had to wait for it to recharge (really?).  But a lot of these said they could only last 10-15 mins of the demo.    On GameHouse, however, it got 4.7/5 with mostly 5s and only a few 4s and 3s (no 1s and 2s at all).  No wonder Magicindie, the developers, have abandoned casual PC games and have decided to turn to FTP in the hopes of making some money.    Nearwood's still in my top 3 games of all time and I let them know how much I loved it.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Wendy, I finally managed to finish the bonus chapter of Sea Legends - Phantasmal Light.  My sister's been here since the beginning of the week so I haven't had time to play any games at all.  But I told her that I had to take an hour to play the bonus while she was reading.  I only wish I'd played it straight after the end of the main game, though, as the guy found things that the girl had left there and I only vaguely remembered what she'd done.

But I wanted to let you know the "grim" ending as you said you got the "good" ending.  I think I know how the good ending ended as my ending was that the guy was taken over by the evil entity and when he left with the girl on the boat he looked up with weird eyes and his voice changed.  I'm sure your ending just had the 2 of them leaving in the boat.  Had there not been the "good" ending I would have been waiting for a sequel as the "evil" ending so leads into a sequel as he looks up at you with evil eyes and his voice goes really deep and there's something said about it being "the end ... or is it?"

I saw you only gave it a but I really liked it and loved the funny bits in the bonus game, where, for example, the guy has to break through a window and says that he's played enough computer games to know how to do it.    There were a few funny comments like that.  And I also really liked the way things that he found and used in the bonus game had been left there by the girl in the main game - I thought that was great and very clever - and made the bonus game much more interesting.

ETA:  I had to add another line break as the formatting was different once I'd posted it from the Preview screen.    How weird was that?

ETA 2:  I forgot to say that I loved the way the sea washed up on the shore and I think that's the best moving water I've seen in any game.  I loved it so much I now use one of the screensavers - the old house on the island and it's all dark and gloomy - with the water continually washing up on the rocky shore.    The last screensaver I'd been using since Christmas was from The Nutcracker and that one was boring.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I played Agatha Christie Then There Was None!! One of the LFAs I finished when my computer was partitioned. I remember I liked it wayyy more than I thought I would. I needed a walkthrough a couple of times but overall I was able to do it. I remember a lot of dialogue but I don't mind that in adventure games. The only thing was, the game had graphic issues on my computer like parts of the scene would be blacked or whited out but it never affected the gameplay so I didn't care.

Sand, I almost bought King Oddball when it was DD. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the demo as I usually don't like/suck at physics based games like Angry Birds and such. This one was WEIRD especially the tongue thing.

I am bout to finish Myths of the World-Chinese Healer SE and Im soooo bored. Initially I really liked this game but Im not really into the eastern theme although I thought I could make an exception for Eipix games. The hard mode still has sparkles on hog scenes which is why I bought the SE. I can't wait to start something new!

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

oh I started Patchworkz! I almost forgot so thankfully the game manager tells you recently played games LOL I love it even more than I did when I demoed it. I play it on window mode while watching (listening) to past episodes of 48 hours that I can only find on their website. Im obsessed with true crime shows especially since the 48 hours episode The Country Club Murders, takes place at my old job. I worked there 4 months after it happened, not knowing about it at all until a coworker told me that I was smoking during my breaks right by the house it happened in, near the rear entrance. Looked it up and freaked out as one of the people was a teacher at my school and I remember the memorials but didn't know her. I haven't watched that one yet as I find it way too scary but I will in time. Amazing what happens behind closed doors especially in a place so expensive. It was one of the most scandolous places I've ever worked in terms of what was going on behind closed doors. I saw more crazy things in the 8 months I worked there than anywhere else I have ever lived/worked/experienced. I should write a book lol

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I'm still playing Mosaics Galore.  If you liked Patchworks, you'll like this game.  I've completed 80 out of 120 levels, but I have a number of them that I need to replay to try and get 3 keys.

It's Bonus Punch Monday.  Anybody getting anything?

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Today I tried the new M3, Rebuild the European Union.  The game is great!! We seldom get new M3s and I am definitely getting this one.  It is by a developer called Actionworks which I am not familiar with.  You are supposed to rebuild famous monuments in the European Union.  Each stage has 6 levels and at the end of the 6th level, you get to do a jigsaw puzzle and rebuild that particular monument.  I really enjoyed the jigsaw puzzle section and the picture is amazing.  First area was Versailles, and next was England.  Unfortuntely my demo timed out just when I was doing t he puzzle for England.  The 6 levels of M3 are slightly different from each other.  You have to collect a certain number of resources to complete each level.  It was fun playing the levels, but my favorite is the jigsaw puzzle at the end.  It's not really a small puzzle, it fills up the whole screen.

I don't know if I want to wait to get this game.  I really like it.  I also like the soft release Fall of the New Age, an adventure game by Playrix.  That one is fun and very interesting to play.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

I have a code for 5 games so I think I am going to get

That soft release as I like Nanograms, Christmas Griddlers (same reason), Campgrounds SE and thanks for mentioning a game I hadn't heard of will get Mosaic Galore. Just need to think of one more. Maybe that New Yankee in Santa's Service.

I know that is two different Christmas ones but it doesn't bother me. Was going to check out the forums for New Yankee but BF just decided to do maintenance.

Ok never mind. That was a quick maintenance but have read New Yankee is just beyond impossible to get gold on many levels. I don't mind a challenge but when experts as these games have trouble I will not have a chance.

Re: Finish your games challenge - 2014

Mosaics Galore is by the same dev that does the Asian Riddles and Christmas Griddler games.

I'm going to wait a bit since my codes will still be good on the last Monday of the month, but Asian Riddles 2 is at the top of my list.

I want Christmas Griddlers and possibly The Ultimate Christmas Puzzler, but there's no rush for them since I won't play them until Decemeber.  But it's nice to have a fall back list in case I can't find anything else to get.
